They love to negotiate in the media. Biggest problem I have with them through the whole thing. Keep your mouth shut. All it did was get the fans in a frenzy. lol

They really got the media in a frenzy! Was Goff even extended? All the talk has been about Zeke. Even all the other holdouts barely received any media attention due to Jerry and Stephen talking which is likely how they wanted it.

I don't care about the cap or the money, let's see this team ride the RB to something beyond the divisional round and let's see the highest paid RB improve on that 6 rushing TD's and 6 fumbles.

First lesson, take what ANYONE says with a grain of salt. And if fans wouldn't hang on every word life would be much less stressful.
Seriously, who cares what anyone says? Nothing is written in stone and whether or not they stick to their "word" is irrelevant.

Plus, whatever they do, there’ll be hordes of morons griping about it!

“No matter what happens, seven billion Chinese just don’t give a ****!”

And my point is even more simple, I would take Jerry’s advice over any poster on this forum.
I would certainly listen to Jerry’s advice on financial and business moves. His advice on how to build a championship team in the cap era? Name one other team that would hire Jerry Jones as its GM. He’s a business genius who thinks he’s a football genius. And he’s surrounded by family members at the top of his organization. What could go wrong with that? Lol.

Dak and Coop now know what they must do.
Get theirs while the getting is good because someone(s) is not getting theirs.

And while depth has always been an issue with this team since the 90's, going to be even more critical with this many players in the top 6 paid at their position, they now have 6, 4 on the OL and the offense ranked 22nd and 2 more to join them. They're going to have 7 of the starting, and we'd better hope all start, 11 players on offense in the top 6 paid. By contrast, the Patriots have 0.

But wait Coach....We Cowboys fans have the most valuable sports franchise moniker to console us as the Pats raise their little Lombardi trophy.

They seldom do, this is all of the reality show known as the Dallas Cowboys and the main reason I no longer have any passion for this team. I watch but really don't care about the outcome and part of me has reverted to the old days when I enjoyed his face when the Cowboys lost.

The man has made himself the face of his team and it's not a pretty face, not remotely pretty. I have usually been successful at avoiding anything he says but this entire Elliott exercise in futility because everyone should have known he would crater as he always does for his stars was unavoidable. The required coverage for a team that has basically accomplished nothing in 24 years is ruining the sport and sports coverage for me. One team has owned the NFL, put forth the best HC and QB of their generation and they don't get half the coverage the Cowboys get, even with handjob Bob.
There used to be a time I would get so nervous before a big game I could barely watch it. After a loss, I could barely concentrate at work the next day.

I think Jerral and Son have sapped almost all my fan energy.

Can't agree totally, for several reasons. As far as the team, meaning players, is concerned, they beefed up the pass rush with Quinn (when he gets back), they have a bigger and stronger C. Williams (by all accounts), they added a veteran receiver in Cobb, Witten is back (the leadership is the main part, not his physical play, though he's probably still going to be open a lot) , Lawrence had the bothersome shoulder fixed, Pollard is a fresh back that teams haven't played against, and by far the biggest factor is the return of Travis Frederick. Looney played well, but he's no Frederick, obviously.

And coaching is at least different, NO Linehan with his vanilla offense. Add to that Richard having a full off season with the defense.

Basically the same team? Numbers-wise, sure, most of the same starters, but looking at the above I think the team is better...

Never said we didn't make any changes. But compare what we did to what the Rams did last offseason and Philly did the year before.......those are teams who used the off season to really improve. To say Dallas significantly improved in the off season is smoking a lot of hopium.

Those idiots made this problem to begin with.

Absofriggin'lutely. You and 'Bobhaze' are spot on for calling those two gomers out for having diarrhea of the mouth. Just goes on and on and on. They remind me SO much of someone else we all know and don't respect. All talk and no action.

It part of negotiations
Some fans just have jerry derangement syndrome
Jerry has been very good at getting the players he wants

No such thing. Just calling him out for being who he is. A loud mouth, insecure jack hole

When it became apparent Zeke was holding out at the beginning of training camp this summer, Stephen Jones famously declared, “We’re not going to set the market.”

Jerry made chest thumping declarations implying opposition to Zeke’s contract position. Remember “Zeke Who”? Remember his long winded wandering defiant answers at Jaylon Smith’s contract extension press conference? Or his calls to a Dallas radio station?

I don’t have a problem with Zeke’s contract. Glad he’s getting paid. My problem is with the frequent and distracting mouth running of our front office. The Jones boys love to talk. But in the end, they don’t say much that ends up being true.

Oh for sure, here...take every last thing into the streets to be played with. Now that has to be a 'smart negotiation.'

Myself, I like seeing Cowboys players earn and get paid. Loyalties are being shown as well...suites this fan. You go - Jerry and Stephen!!:starspin:

Hey, I have an idea! Let’s take something most people here wanted to see happen and turn it into another opportunity to slam the Jones boys.

The team has finally been remade, since the lockout summer. Paint me both a happy and proud Cowboys fan.

finally words of wisdom

people dont understand posturing, negotiating, diplomacy and all such concepts. It isnt just sports and it certainly isnt just Jerry
Not to mention simply making a statement that you change later on.

I took pretty heavy fire when I suggested that Elliott gets signed and doesn't miss a game. Not to say "I told ya so" but it illustrates how nutty people get about things they have zero control over, but act like they're signing checks, lol.

...I think they were serious at the start. The situation became prolonged and dragged. More "If's", set into play. With or without Zeke? To win or not to win? Setting the tone for a more complicated contract.

It's like this extra thing attached to the team. Every other fan gets a football team, an everyday, regular football team but we get this media circus and the coverage of this team since the season ended has been more over the top than ever. Booger wasn't content with the additional coverage, he had to up the ante by calling into radio shows. What a complete and utter fool.

And my point is even more simple, I would take Jerry’s advice over any poster on this forum.

Jerry had the good sense in the beginning to hire the right coach and enpower him (Jimmy) with 100% say in all football matters including gm duties. Kudos to Jerry because it allowed Jimmy to build a winner.

99% of the posters on this forum are more qualified for gm over Jerry, even if Jimmy is why we won 3 in 90s, because posters typically agree on the following:
  1. We need a top notch coaching staff, not former players and friends of Jerry. There is no salary cap on paying coaches but Jerry refuses to hire the best of the best. There is no excuse for us not having great coaches except Jerrys ego.
  2. We need a real GM who has a winning track record in the salary cap era. Jerry was a figurehead gm when Jimmy built a 3 time champion. We need an Ozzie Newsome, Bill B, etc. Great GMs can be recruited from other team$.
  3. We need a culture change brought on by a real hc who is empowered to do his job without Jerrys micro-management.
  4. We need the owner to shut his pie hole and perform owner duties instead of trying to be a rock star who is starved for media attention.
These 4 simple changes would mk all the difference and I'd say the majority of posters would agree, making almost anyone here a better choice for gm.

Jerry is a great business man. But see items 1-4 to explain the past two decades. Give us a great hc and staff picked by the hc, and the Rams game was ours for the taking.

I know the Jones boys wont change their ways, but dont be deceived into thinking "this is how 31 other teams do business".
