I'm struggling because house prices are downright insane when they should be cheap because in Texas foundations sink off the house every 10-15 years. Texas has by far the worst foundation issues in the USA.

Can't buy even a crappy starter house with cash for less than $200k today.
Rent and save up money for a while.

at camp, day 2, he was signing and talking to people.... super cool guy. So, if I could make a career out of doing whatever the team asked and was the kind of guy they want around players... why not.

You should be able to afford a house a lot more expensive than 200k, if you have an income of 140k a year after taxes. You should be able to easily afford a much more expensive house on that type of income.

I smell BS.

Basically, I'd say you are making the typical mistake of many Americans, spending more than you make. You should not be struggling at all at the amount. My wife and I together make less than that, and we are very comfortable and take a couple vacations per year, and buy pretty much whatever we want. Might want to try a financial counselor.

He needs a much different type of counseling.

A million dollars is not all that much money in this era. 200k a year. I bet there are at least 1000 members here pulling down something close to that doing whatever they do.

I like that the kid gave it his best shot and did whatever was asked of him. He earned every penny.
my wife and I were in the 230k range now..... hardly rich. One kid in college, another in her sr year, olderst we put through her masters....... I do get to travel from Ca to 3-6 Cowboys games a year, so we blow probably 1k per game... but 240k is hradly rich. Good living? Sure... but lets not get carried away with that amount.

You're making a quarter mil/year and you're struggling? You need help.
house payment of about 2100 per month, one car payment about 350 per month, a kid in college paying about 1k per month for rent and food, ... I could go on, but start adding up groceries, gas for cars, house and auto insurance, medical insurance alone between the two of us with really good employer plans, we probably pay about 500 per month...... 250k is good living, but it isnt wealthy by any means.

And, you will keep making that money while for Showers it will all dry up in a year.

So, you are buying houses in swamps and not bothering with home inspections. Good for you! Live on the edge! Don’t let the man tell you how to do things!

I had the home inspection. House was in The Colony, TX. by Plano. NOT a swamp. Residential area. My inspection team, as recommended by my experienced realtors, said there was no foundation issues in Fall 2016. But when I sold in Spring 2018 one of the prospective buyers wanted $30,000+ at close for a foundation repair... uh, nuh. I covered a narrow but long and obvious area between the base boards and the rug, that was a direct hole to outside (the base boards were coming up THROUGHOUT the house), up with TP so hopefully they wouldn't find out. Fortunately I got a buyer that didn't flunk my house... thank goodness.

*,,,,,,if that's the case, with the foundation issues? Their "sub soil & topfill " compaction tests weren't up to snuff, to proceed any further in the house building phase ,like pouring (min 25,000 psi,I'd suspect) concrete pad or perimeter footer foundations,,, they got building codes in that state as well, dude

It's a shame that happened - very frustrating. But I've never heard of that being a widespread problem in Texas before. Maybe something with that particular builder or housing development, or that area.

Jameill Showers has done quite well for himself in Dallas - especially as a player who never made the 53-man team. Showers had no practice squad eligibility left in 2019. But since he was waived/injured, and no one claimed him, he reverts to the Cowboys Injured Reserve list, and will get paid $378K this year. Not bad. That injury in preseason game #4 is paying off for him.

Here is the 5 year history of his pay in Dallas:
2015 - $51,176
2016 - $117,300
2017 - $108,000
2018 - $363,000 (on injured reserve)
2019 - $378,000 (on injured reserve)
Total - $1,017,476 - an average of over $200K per year.

He could even be brought back for a 6th offseason next year, as the Cowboys still own his rights as an Exclusive Rights Free Agent.

The Cowboys have been beddy, beddy good to Jameill...
its sports I know there are Pro golfers not even in the top 50 that make million a year just playing many tournaments and getting paid for whatever postion they get that week..

IM assuming those same golfers have to cover travel , hotel, and food all the while on the road... which is almost all year. That adds up also.

Showers’ pay doesn’t cover health insurance and meals at the star and California.

Do players get free meals, off season medical insurance coverage and gym access at The Star 355 days a year?
