May be time to let Marinelli go

Yeah, sometimes you have to put the old dog down. As painful as that might be. I'm seeing nothing from Methuselah's "Rushmen" and the same issues of being unsound versus the run that cost us last year. The game passes everyone by eventually, and I think our 'defensive coordinator' in name only has had his day.

Time to go.

he is slowly stepping way...btw, we played a 4 man rush most of the game and had 5-6 DBs most of the time, almost like a prevent defense. we still put decent pressure on Eli.

Keep in mind the giants only ran the ball seventeen times and rushed for nearly a hundred yards more after barkeley’s big fifty nine yard run.Saquan himself had two more runs for over ten yards up the middle of the cowboys defense after that.Hopefully Rod’s days with the cowboys are numbered. I was going to wait until later in the season before posting about it the state of the cowboys but yeah , that wasn’t a good performance by the cowboys d.

yep.... I agree. Love the guy but his coaching style while it's motivating it's not progressive

Should have been let go after the GB playoff loss. Seriously, the great defensive guru couldn't stop a qb that was playing with one good leg.

You guys realize that Richard was calling the plays today, right?

I never heard that was official from last year or today, for any one from the team.
It was from someone on here, ore a media person.

I never seen a link otherwise either. Against from the team.

I would guess that all teams defenses run a version of 4-2-5 60-70% of the snaps in today's game.

The third linebacker spot is evolving into a strong safety, with two traditional free safeties playing behind.
Educated post.

That's why we keep so many safeties every year.

I think he will bow out as Kiffin did to make way for Chris Richard...........or they may just give it to Richards anyway and shuffle the titles.

It was shown and mentioned on the broadcast. It showed Richard calling a play through the headset and immediately panned to Marinnelli sitting on the bench talking with the players.

Agreed, Stash.

This "rushmen" mentality, especially on non passing downs is getting Dallas killed.

When they know it's a passing situation I'm all for it but to push upfield on run downs is ridiculous.

Half the time I don't think the DT's know where the ball is.

This is in a Bob Sturm article on The Athletic, I can't link it because its behind a pay wall -

Adding to that was Kris Richard being acquired from Seattle to basically coordinate the defense. (The Cowboys still list Rod Marinelli as the defensive coordinator despite all parties admitting that Richard now calls the defense and seems to do most of the actual coordinating while Marinelli seems to handle coaching the defensive line as a smaller group. For this reason – fair or unfair, we are changing the name of this series to the “Richard Report”).

Richard doesn't set the ideology or pick the DT's.

Marinelli has only had great defenses when he played for head coaches that came from the defensive side of the ball.
It's pretty clear that Marinelli is NOT a good personnel guy. But he's no different than any other coordinator. If he has dominant players he coaches a dominant unit. Richard is the perfect example. He was made a scapegoat for the fact that Seattle dismantled the most dominant defense in the league. He didn't just forget how to coach up a defense. Same is true for Marinelli.

The old man can still coach up a unit. Just keep him out of the talent acquisition phase.

I missed it then, so fire them both. But it was the 1st game, let's see how they improve. But Marinelli needs to go regardless.

I will rewatch it in the next few days.
I was trying to watch the game and keep up on it. I was watching it on a 30 to 45 minute delay, having to pause every few minutes.

Had an issue with my AC right before the game started. So while the repair guy was here, could not pay attention like I wanted. So could not concentrate 100% on everything.
Luckily it was just a loose wire, and only cost me $59.

Are we really looking for things to complain about on a day where we beat a Division rival by 18 points?

They won't play a rebuilding team the rest of the year.

Cowboys sacked a never-mobile, aged quarterback, operating behind a line with 2 new starters, ONE time.

ONE.

Barkley other than the 59 yard run had only 10 other runs, averaging over 6 yards a carry. If they had run Barkley 25 times this might have been a much closer game. Engram caught 10 passes, most of them he was wide open. Cowboys defense apparently expect a heavy dose of Barkley, and when they didn't get it, didn't make sufficient adjustments.

The defense will get slaughtered against better teams if they don't play better. The pass rush was abysmal.

Always glad for a win, and the offense looked very good, but this wasn't the SB. One win against a poor team, at home, doesn't mean the team is SB bound, and we want a SB...
