I liked Cobb a lot, and actually liked the signing for Dallas. But I don't buy into the idea that he's an upgrade in the slot for Beasley or a better player at this point in his career (just look at the contracts the two guys got). I do think he's a better fit for what we needed, and I was pleasantly surprised by him. I also think that, if he goes down with a hammy after week four, we'll have guys in Tavon Austin and Pollard that can do some of the things he's likely to do for us.
He looked impressive yesterday, though, for sure. Glad to have him.
I disagree, contracts most never tell the story of who is better. Cobb is by far better than Beasley and it's not even close. Not just as a receiver but return game as well.
Nobody wants to go to Buffalo, they go because they are over paid. Cobb took less and came to Dallas knowing he would be number 3 behind Cooper and Gallup.
Hi guys. 41 year old lifelong cowboys fan, living in Minnesota but grew up in dfw. As a guy who lives around tons of packer fans, it was nice talking about Randall last night at the bar, while they faked interest. Viking and packer fans hate us as bad as giants and skins fans......and almost as much as eagle fans lol.
He has been/appeared washed up and slow and injured - ask any Green Bay fan.It was quite surprising reading some comments of some of you in here, that Cobb was washed up and slow.
Cobb did look good! I thought he was done because he looked terrible at the end of the season in GB.I've watched him play at GB for years and thought we'd see a slower receiver with injury issues. But he looked fresh, quick and wouldn't go down without a fight. If he can stay healthy and fresh he will have a huge impact on this season. I'd go a little light on his snap count early in the season unless we are in dire need of wins.

And no way Beas gets that first down..he probably slides or gets out of boundsThat fight for the first down he made was my favorite play of his yesterday. No way he should've gotten that, but he just wasn't going to be denied.

Don’t forget. He played one season in the Sec as a starting QB. He’s a tough runner and great athlete.I've watched him play at GB for years and thought we'd see a slower receiver with injury issues. I agree that Cobb is a more risk signing due to health but that doesn't make Beasley better than Cobb. As a wide receiver a "healthy" Cobb is much better. He can play anywhere at receiver, Beasley can not. Cobb can run any route as well, Beasley can not. Beasley provides less yards after catch than Cobb and Cobb can blow by people while Beasley can't. I'm curious, exactly why you think Beasley is better than Cobb.Agree to disagree, then. But note, I'm only talking about offensive production here. Beasley as a returner was only put in for punts inside the 10 because he's sure-handed, anyway.
But you can always tell what teams think of players by the contracts they hand out. Follow the money, as they say. Cobb took less because he's at an age and has an injury history where he needed a prove-it year. Beasley had a deal with the Cowboys in his back pocket if he wanted it and went to the market looking for security---and got it.
Both guys are pretty good players, but Cobb was the much riskier signing. We'll see how his health holds up. Hopefully we got lucky.
I agree about the health. All things considered, Cobb is much better than Beasley and it's not even debatableI don't think Cobb took less because he wanted to come to Dallas. I think that was likely his best offer because he's in his 10th season and has had down years the past two years. There were questions about his health/decline that kept him from getting more. That doesn't mean a healthy Cobb isn't better than Beasley, but health is the main difference in what they received.
Playing in the frozen tundra often probably didn’t help either.Starting out seasons strong is Cobb's MO. He had 10 catches for 142 yards last year in GB's opener against Chicago.
His issue the past 3 years or so in GB is that he wears down, accumulates nagging injuries, and more recently misses games.
We have to hope that the (A) The Cowboys somehow have a better training staff (B) Cobb's health issue the past few years have just been bad luck and (C) he's takes less wear and tear this season playing for the Cowboys than he did in GB.

I had no idea he was that strong. He just whipped that Defender out of the way like he was just dustCobb has been banged up the last few years. Before that, he was one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite targets. If he can stay healthy, he's still a huge threat.
