Why were WR's running open?

I keep seeing this as an excuse for Dak's great game.

For the first time in forever, I saw an O scheme that took advantage of NYG's scheme of stopping the run. Why do you think Zeke only had, what was it, 11 carries? Easy, because Moore saw what they were doing and took advantage of it. As opposed to Linny simply running into the teeth of their D.

Will this keep up? I'm pretty sure it will. Moore may or not be a lot of things, but one thing he definitely is, a football brain. Dude had his own playbook "IN COLLEGE". He understands the game like no other on this staff. He gets it. You cannot teach what this kid has.

Is this premature gushing on my part? I don't think so. I saw exactly what I expected from this kid. Taking advantage of mismatches, taking advantage of opponents schemes, and hugely taking advantage of NYG's scheme to stop our running game. No longer are we going to see Zeke repeatedly running into stack boxes, no longer are we going to see our receivers running at the DB and just turning around. And now, suddenly WR's are running open, getting open as many of us thought was possible, creating the separation that is key for any QB. NO exceptions.

Welcome to the NFL coaching world, Kellen. And we look forward to when you become the HC as Garret is moved up to GM. Or whatever title he's given up top.

Jerry got this one right. I know I've bagged on Jerry many many times over the years, but I've also been ready to give him his kudos when he gets it. This is his boy, and this one couldn't have been any more in the center of the target.

Looking forward to some great football!!!! Itsa comin'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dak deserves a lot of the credit for knowing where to throw the ball on each play, looking off the cover, making the throws and leading the team.

In years passed I remember the TV broadcast would mention that a CB from the opposing team Was just signed last week and has to start. We were never was able to take advantage.

Hopefully that has changed. Moore and smart recievers. So far looking good!!!

I know it's just the first game but if Moore keeps this up he will be getting head coaching offers at the end of the season. If Jerry extends Garrett the what?

I thought it was a great game by Moore.

However, WR's were running wide open last year against the Rams in the playoffs as well. Probably more open than yesterday.

But that is exactly his point. Why did we continue running the ball into loaded boxes and on every first down. As soon as we moved away from that we started moving the ball and scoring. We start the game like that, it's most likely different results.

I have not read through all 6 pages of this thread but the OP asks why our WRs were running so wide open. It's because NY gets terrible play from there secondary and LBs. If you watch that game again, you will see two things. A lot of soft coverage, players playing off technique and lots of biting on short moves in WR routes. The other thing you see is terrible technique by the DBs moving WRs off their routes on release. What do both of these kinds of technique failures result in? WRs running open all over the field.

That's the simple answer.

Make no mistake about this. Kellen Moore will make adjustments as soon as you see something's close closed down. He will open something else up. Bet On It

Right.

A guy already thinking at this level is anticipating and already has a plan for that.

Awwwlready!

Moore will be all ready.

Then why haven't we seen this since pre-Linehan? Prolly pre-Garrett?

Respectfully disagree.

LOL at our fans seeing our WRs running in open spaces and wonder why that happens. They can't figure out that's how the play was drawn up if everything goes right. They just haven't seen it before so it's foreign to them. Welcome to the Kellen Moore era folks. The matrix just got slower for our QB so you will be seeing him do things(like throwing to WRs in open spaces) that you've never seen before.

Didn't bother to read all your text as I know you are a committed Dak-zoid.
Simply stuff here Dak has this season to show us he has grown to Franchise QB status.
The rest is just gibberish and if you think big games against the Dead Giants and the depleted Eagles make Dak the "One" then you have very low expectations when it concerns QB.

I don't think it's a case of not seeing this since before Linehan, per say. I think it's more a matter of how good we are, personnel wise and how bad the Giants are right now. I mean, there is a really easy way to see if what I am saying is true or if it's wrong. Just watch the game again. Watch how poorly the Giants secondary plays our WRs. It's not HS bad, it's like elderly home aerobics bad. I don't think we are going to know how good our passing game is until we are able to play a team who can actually play some D. But it's OK to disagree. I mean, I could definitely be wrong.

I thought they were trying to defend the run more than they should have

Absolutely. This was simply the first volley. I simply believe what we saw was the result of a better scheme/playcalling. I simply do not remember a time when WR's were this open this consistently. We've even played secondaries that were this bad before, and it was nowhere near like this.

Remember GB in the playoffs playing guys off the street in the secondary? And we looked nothing like this.

Name calling and personal attack. I expect nothing less from a poster who has consistently shown not to have a clue.

I'm sorry, was that too long for you to read again? Get me your address and I'll get you some pictures!!!!!!!!!!!

It's refreshing. If they're gonna stuff the box with 7-8+ guys then do what we did. If they don't do it, then unleash Zeke and make him all the more effective.

I’ve been hard on Dak in the past (although IMO more than fair) but I can’t see any reason not to give him credit for how he played on Sunday. Yes it’s the Giants, yes the play calling was great, and yes this team is loaded with weapons, but Dak still did what you hoped a player with those kind of riches would do and that’s score at will against a bad team. Am I sold on Dak as a franchise QB? Maybe not yet but I’m closer than I’ve ever been. I want to see a body of work and I want to see this offense (not just Dak, the OC and WRs too) prove that they can look like a modern elite NFL offense against playoff type teams as well. But game 1 was a real step in the right direction and that’s a good thing to see.

We have 4 number 1 wide receivers now

This is our deepest receiving group I can recall since the years of T.O. I hope everyone now realizes that Williams was at best a no 4 receiver, but he was made to have to run number 2 routes, Romo did some pretty special things with the most talent overestimation ever.
