I read a story about a female fighter pilot that was going to kamikaze United flight 93 before it went down....amazing story and sacrifice. Not sure why it took 18 years to hear about this.

I also watched a video of people calling loved ones from the airplanes and the towers. It was heart-wrenching yet made me furious at the same time.

Wow, I've never heard this and I'm a sucker for watching anything 911 related (except the conspiracy crap)

Got a link for this story?

I'm right across the East River from Ground Zero this morning, and to my surprise I didn't see the two towers of light they've been displaying for years now. It may just be the low clouds blocking them, but I was pretty disappointed not to see them today.
They were illuminated this evening.

I remember I was on the 15th green of the Tower Course at Torreon Golf Club. Our boss came over the radio saying that the 1st tower had been hit. I immediately drove to the clubhouse knowing that they had about 6 T.V.s running.

I walked in turned the corner and less than 10 seconds later watched the second plane hit live. I've never been so infuriated in a single instant so quickly in my life. I still can't find the words to convey my emotions at that very moment. All I knew, right then, is someone has to pay.

I'll never ever forget it.

This is a documentary by two French film makers on 9/11 of a rookie firefighter, they did not know they would be filming history that day.

It's 2 hours, but has some amazing footage. I still get emotional thinking about the heroics of the brave first responders. True Heroes.

Serious question......should September 11 be made a National holiday? I feel somewhat shallow going about my day every year on this anniversary. I do take time for remembrance and solemn but it seems more and more forget this day.

I don’t know if that would be in good taste or not but these young kids have no idea of the impact it had on us as a nation, we came together. Patriotism is first and foremost yet that is in question these days........

According to the NYT headline yesterday:
Some airplanes flew into the twin towers....as if they flew themselves.
So strange

And in the local paper in the "this day in history section" that appears daily

no mention of the events in 2001 or the Benghazi raid in 2012

Can't believe it's been 18 years.

I remember hearing over the PA system in school that a plane had hit the towers, but we were left in the dark about the size/devastation. Parents started picking up kids shortly after.
Got home in the afternoon and was just in shock at what happened.

Aunt worked in the north tower. Luckily she wasn't there when it happened. Know she lost some co-workers.

It showed us the worst of humanity, but also the best of humanity in the aftermath. There was a nice stretch of no petty bickering here. No one cared what you believed in, who you voted for etc... We were all united as Americans.
