Dallas Cowboys rookie defender did not know what being inactive means. He knows now.

Trysten Hill did not see it coming, because he did not even know the term existed.

The Dallas Cowboys rookie defensive tackle from Central Florida was unaware that there existed a possibility he would not at least suit up for the season opener against the New York Giants.

He said he was told of the Cowboys decision to make him inactive for the opener on Sunday, the day of the game, hours before kickoff. That’s a fairly standard procedure for the inactive players.

“I didn’t even know that this existed, that you only dress 46 and not all 53,” Hill said. “I didn’t even know what being ‘inactive’ was.”

Safe to say he knows now.

Where is he quoted as saying, What do inactive mean? I did not see that in the story, or was that just a dig from you? If it was, i don't find it funny.

It's one game, no need to throw in the towel.

Didn't start majority of games his final year in college for national contending team.

Was inactive for a team not exactly strong at his position.

His defensive Coordinator said in an interview after the draft that they don't always start the best players. They start the players that had the best practices that week.

Yeah not a fan of the rule, but I guess for teams that have 53 healthy players vs a team that has 46 healthy players it could create an unfair advantage. Still though the bottom end of the roster wouldn't be likely to play much anyway.
You just gave the answer to why 46 active with 53 on the roster. The intent is to attempt to level the playing field (roster size-wise) if one team has injuries and another doesn't (or if one team has more injuries than another). It fits in nicely with the league's "parity" plan.

He's young. Its a new world for him. Marinelli made a comment that he was the caboose right now. They expect him to get to the dining car, but he still has a ways to go to the engine. Basically he's making progress. Its more or less a matter of the fog lifting like a lot of rookies.

If he really didn't know that it seems more an indictment on the coaching staff.

How? Does that affect his performance knowing that he might not dress? In college, lots of guys who dress don't get in the game. You've gotta compete to play regardless.

Why would the coaches spend time explaining something that most fans know when it will make ZERO difference in the player's approach?

Even Charlton dressed for his first game.
Yeah but he didn't dress on Sunday and he let the world know how upset about he was on Saturday through social media. I bet he's off this team before Trysten.
