Letting the players vote for captains..........Clearly ANOTHER stupid decision by Garrett.

"If you're not careful, voting for captains is a popularity contest," Penn State coach James Franklin said. "And the players vote for who the best player is. It's not who makes the people around them better."

If a coach decides to have a vote for team captain, one method for limiting the effect of popularity is to have players share their opinion before the season begins. University of Arkansas coach Bret Bielema tries to have his players vote two weeks before the start of the season. While decreasing the chances of friends voting for each other, it also allows him some new insights through the choices made by his freshman.

"To me, sometimes new eyes are the best eyes. They literally can tell who really, truly, does lead, who kind of has a voice and not necessarily going with the most popular. As you get older, I think it's easy to start voting for your buddy," Bielema said.

This is painful to read, thinking you thought it made yet another embarrassing gaffe a little less embarrassing. It didn't.

If Wilson is truly healthy, likely we cut Frazier, maybe Thompson.

Not just my opinion. Seemed to be the consensus with the team writers that Frazier only made the roster because of Wilson's injury.

When healthy, Thompson is a better safety than Frazier. Both were selected in the 2016 draft - Thompson was a 3rd round pick, while Frazier was a 6th round pick.

I didn’t look it up. I just know the players select the captains because I happen to follow the team and have functioning adult intelligence.
Did you happen to know Heath is a special teams captain not a defensive captain? I'm surprised nobody in this thread knew that?

When you and Roy finish up whatever it is the two of you think you’re doing here, it’ll still be the case that the entire team disagrees with your assessments of Crawford and Heath as players.

And it’ll still be the case the Roy is foolishly blaming the head coach, again, for something he’s not involved with at all because Roy simply never has even a foggy idea of what he’s talking about when it comes to NFL football in general or the Cowboys in particular.
Its not my idea that they are bad its a football concensus. Theres not one person in the nfl that will day either of those guys are even average

Yes, I'm fairly certain that Thompson is above Frazier on the depth chart.

It's not a straight up comparison because Thompson's best attribute is coverage and Frazier's best attribute is run defense.

The rookie Wilson played almost all of his snaps in preseason games at FS.

The Cowboy need help at SS.

They sometimes flip Heath and Woods when they want Woods for a specific coverage match-up against specific formations.

I think they would like to have an SS that could handle some of those duties and not have to move Woods down in those situations.

I think eventually Wilson can be that player.

I'm skeptical about using Thompson at SS because his tackling in the preseason games was not that good. Good enough for a deep Safety but not for a Strong Safety.

I'm that guy, according to you, who hasn't a clue about how things actually work in the NFL and who still doesn't understand my actual take on Jason Garrett after seeing it in print dozens of times.

Which means there's a very high likelihood that I'm not actually that guy at all and that you, again, don't really know what you're talking about.

All someone has to do is look at your signature to know you just lied. Lol

You are a complete and utter embarrassment to all cowboys fans. The way you defend the fan hated Garrett is s disgrace. Your signature is pathetic.

But hey.....you knew the players picked the captains. Lol

I see Wilson as the back-up to Heath, and Thompson as the back-up to Woods. So we're on the same page, I think. Ultimately, I think the Cowboys want interchangeable safeties that can play either SS or FS depeding on match-ups, formation, etc.

I adopted two pet cats this year. Both bear the name Wilson. Their first ones are Donovan and Cedrick. Let's wish 'em both Godspeed!

Yes, without Wilson, Thompson would be the backup FS and Frazier would be the backup SS.

When Wilson is healthy he might be the backup at both spots and hopefully the starting SS before the end of the season or at least in a rotation to play some of the SS snaps.

My only reservation is that I would like to have seen Wilson play more SS in the preseason games.

I guess that they wanted to play him where he was most comfortable originally (he play more deep Safety in college) and then they'll work him in at SS over time.

Here is a little bit of a downer for all the Heath haters: He is one of the team captains, there is no way a rookie is going to take his place on the field. Another favorite hate-target, Tyrone Crawford, is also a team captain. Wilson may eventually earn Heath's spot, but, barring injury, it won't be anytime soon.
I don't think Crawford was elected as a team captain this year. Jaylon got it instead
