I like your idea, but keep in mind top picks don’t work out all the time. There is a reason they are granting him permission to move on. Taco was a first rounder too. We know more about Taco now and wouldn’t pick him where we did if we had it to do over. They may feel the same way about **.

He wasn't close to a bust as a rookie though. He's played well.

The owner never wanted to draft him and they are probably shaking their head that they spent a 1st round pick on a slot corner.

If he's just a slot corner then yeah I don't want him but I think he's more then that. To me he is a All Pro Free safety. Potentially Earl Thomas all over again.

Also the part that most people seem to be missing, is Minkah is best suited to play CB, not FS/SS. Part of the reason he wants out, is he doesn't want to play in the box. I guess in theory, we could move Woods to SS and start Minkah at FS, but if the team wanted to do that, I don't see why they didn't give any real consideration to Earl Thomas. And quite frankly, is giving up a draft pick for Minkah worth it, if he's going to play CB? Probably a good long term move, but worth it right now, I'm not sure.

He played nickel in Saban's defense, and reading about him, sounds like the Dolphins don't know what to do with him and he probably doesn't know what to do in that mess of a defense. PFF claimed he was the best slot corner in the nfl last year.

IMO, he's too small to play SS, I don't think he's really 207. But he was undeniably one of the best players in the country, a dynamic playmaker. On a team full of future NFL players that won 2 championships, he always stood out. Unless there are character concerns, I'd definitely think about a 2nd rounder for him.
If memory serves me correctly, he was playing corner until Eddie Jackson (who I was hoping beyond hope the Cowboys would steal in the draft) suffered a season-ending injury at Alabama. He stepped in at EJ's safety role because of his versatility, and Alabama didn't miss a beat. But I think he enjoys corner better. Great kid. No off-the-field issues.
I'd go get him. Definitely would trade Taco and throw in a second or Anthony Brown for good measure.

JMO, but Anthony Brown, who will be a free agent after the season, isn't very enticing. We would literally get better value by trading Brown to a team more interested in winning in 2019 an trading that pick+our second for Fitzpatrick

Make the trade and move Awuzie to Strong Saftey. Miami eats most of the contract if we were to lose Jones

Ross wanted a trade back for Lamar Jackson. Sure he enjoyed week 1.

But multiple other professional media outlets have since reported one of the things Ross also wanted Grier to do after making his trade-down was consider picking Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson.

I'm amazed he still kept Grier tbh.

I don't remember which was yours, but there were so many along the lines of "Taco plus a third," as if the Dolphins would put any non-zero value on acquiring Taco.

If their GM or HC liked him during that draft then it's possible they would put some value on him.

Giving up more than expected in a trade has often been traced back to this concept.

If the Cowboy had not drafted a Dak or another QB in 2016, Jerry likely would have given up a 2nd for Paxton Lynch after Lynch has been in the NFL for a year because Jerry wanted to trade back into the 1st to draft him originally.

If the Cowboys and another good team are both offering a pick in the same round, then throwing in Taco could swing the balance to the Cowboys.

...............can't use those initials, man.
It's funny because the filter does not sound an alarm telling me that it has filtered something out.

Yes, the initials of Minkah Fitzpatrick could be used as an insult to another poster. Does Byron Jones get filtered out...
