Final Commanders Game Notes

Thought I'd post some various thoughts leading up to the early kickoff tomorrow.

-Morgan Moses, tackle for the Skins is a woolly mammoth . He's 6'6" and 335 pounds. He will be charged to stop DeMarcus Lawrence. The guy is rated as middle of the pack tackle, but DeMarcus hasn't worked into full game shape after his shoulder surgery. We really need Tank to bring some pressure.

-Dak spoke last week about the importance of the second drive last week. He says it "got him in the zone." If Dak can establish confidence and tone early...it could lead to a comfortable win. QB's need rhythm, feel and confidence. Hope it comes first or second series.

-I really want to see Zeke break some tackles Sunday, and juke some guys. Get us bonus yards. There weren't any elite carries last week. Yes, he's rusty and is typically slow to start each season. But Z's gotta earn that money.

-Got a chuckle from Clarlie Casserly who know works for DC media. He said it was key to keep Dak in the pocket. WTH? Dak is very much a pocket QB. Funny memes and silly notions die hard. Casserly also said Cooper didn't have deep speed. Let's hope the Skins take that nonsense notion into the game.

-Curious to see how much Jourdan Lewis plays tomorrow. I'll be a bit miffed if he's not the slot CB.

-One area where Zeke absolutely excels? Blitz pickup. Re-watching a Giants play and you can hear the crashing blow Elliott puts on a blitzer. Hope he ambushes Kerrigan like that tomorrow.

-Will the Zebras hunt us tomorrow? Very much a concern of mine.

-Here are 3 names that didn't register in week 1, that could pop tomorrow: Maliek Collins, Dorrance Armstrong, Kerry Hyder. On offense I say Olawele is going to make Cowboy nation notice. This week or sometime soon. That fullback has true speed.

Reviewing again, Philly-Skins.

Skins can be strange. On a key play they only rush 3. Yet Desean Jackson only has to beat single coverage deep. How is this possible...8 men in coverage...but only single coverage deep on DJ? And on the second DeSean catch? Again only has to beat one man. Assignment issues can be exploited.

But again the alert...it was 20-7 Skins-Eagles at one point. Keenum is *not* a spare and *not* a bum.

My biggest worry is the zebras honestly...………….remember last years game in Washington and the "illegal snap" on the FG.

That was some straight up bull chit, talk about home cooking by the refs...…..if the game goes down to the wire, I fully expect another screw job.

I hope Dallas comes out attacking early and often, a lot of motion, spread them out, attack the middle of the field, looking for Cobb to have a big game today...

That was very funny. They all let DJ go deep. When the Skins realized what happened it was too late. I think everyone on the Skins D thought someone else got him.

We should kill them. If Kellen is the O coordinator we hope he is, we will attacked that crappy secondary with a lot of double moves and hit them with some deep balls. Washington doesn't have much talent back there and we should be able to go over the top pretty easily, if our O line holds up. This could be a blow out, but bases on what usually happens it won't. We tend to play down to the competition sometimes and Washington isn't that good. Hell, they aren't even close to being good. We shall see.

Casserly should have read the FDA warning on that shoe polish before putting it on that thing on his head.

Let's hope the corruption in DC doesn't extend to the football field on Sunday. I'm looking for a fair game, free of serious injuries, played hard and won by the better team. Go Cowboys! :flagwave:

My take:
Their Defense:
- They have a stout interior but not guys that get up the field. Sweat, Kerrigan and Anderson are pretty darn good guys OLB's to have on the edge. Collins & Smith have a big game ahead of them.
- I think there inside LB's are pretty average. The Dallas Cowboy podcasts keep banging on about Holcobe but I don't rate him all that highly. If Zeke/Pollard get to the second level they're going to cause some problems.
- The DB's are poor, Norman used to be good, Landon Collins is a top box safety but Dunbar, Moreau, Nicholson & Colivin are not good. We should rip there secondary apart.

Their offense:
- McLaurin looked pretty good and has plenty of speed but the rest are pretty average. Need to watch Quinn but I feel like we have good matchups.
- The offensive line is trash, Scherff is the only decent player, the rest would struggle to beat out our backups.
- Decent RB's that will need to be watched, we all know AD. They have an okay scat back that will need to be watched but he's not that good.

I read Moreau is out and Dunbar is likely out ... reason they signed Colvin.

The Skins are tough to judge. They did go up 20-7.

It’s a slippery slope judging them. On one hand, you think, well they only had a big fluke Davis touchdown and McLaurin running wide open is all they had.

On the other hand, if Keemun hits McLaurin on that TD deep late, the Skins likely win that game

This is why Quinn and or Gregory (whenever he comes back) are very important. You can't put it all on one guy. This entire defensive line needs to step it up.

In his defense no defense wants to see the QB buy time by sneaking out of the pocket and looking down field. Especially a QB like Prescott who can take off running. Maybe that's what he meant? As far as the Cooper comment goes, that sounds ridiculous to me. Maybe I missed it, but I have yet to see a defender catch Cooper from behind. So far he has been a wire to wire receiver. Often accelerating past defenders. If Dak hit him in stride against the Giants, no one was catching him. So yeah, I hope the Commanders play him bump and run with no one over the top. See what happens.

I want to see how this offense, passing offense plays on a grass field. That's why I was thinking Smash Mouth today. Just beat the Commanders
