Best option to replace Xavier Woods?

Should they move Byron Jones to safety for this spell? Can Jourdan Lewis play it? Or just roll with Thompson or Goodwin?

Glad it's Miami this week and Brees won't play next week.

Safety is lean.

I said this before the season began. Wilson coming in for an injury to Heath or Woods would be the first step in his unseating Heath.

Clone Jeff Heath.

Would like to see a Heath-Wilson duo.

It certainly beats a Darian Thompson-Jeff Heath pairing.

But here we are again. I have read that Richard prefers Thompson because he "is long and has the kind of range" he likes.

That kind of thinking is why Lewis is going to go to another team and be a top corner in this league.

Thompson and Wilson should be active and see some snaps.

in fact, I expect to see Darian Thompson and Heath as the starting safeties come Sunday, assuming DT is declared OK-healthy to go.

I feel Frazier will get exposed in coverage as a starter and would wonder if Richard still doesn't trust him enough to alleviate him to that starting role, much less a nickel role.

even in preseason he still looks lost or tentative. late arriving or making sure to keep plays in front of him. if he can blitz or ask to handle run support he's in his element.
maybe Thompson is much like Broaddus was saying this summer, - he may not do anything to stand out in plays, but he won't make the assignment mistakes .

Thompson was a former 3rd round draftee by the Giants and he NFL game experience to offer, that could be why he is getting an early nod for a starting role

Sign Josh Jones.

Roll with Jones and Heath.

If not, Heath and Wilson. Keep Thompson and Frazier off the field.

We’re going to want Jones on Michael a Thomas in two weeks

So you’d rather roll with a guy who’s not even on an NFL roster right now than go with a guy who’s been in our camps and played in our scheme before?

Because Heath has such great instincts? Maybe he'll surprise me.
Because that's what it's going to be. What he does is know where to be and get there every time. Is Heath a playmaker, no, but he's not going to screw anything up.

It's also exactly what they did the last time Xavier Woods was hurt, so there's really no point in playing the guessing game. We know what the answer is already.

Agreed, I don't really see the point of this thread. We already know who will be our starting safeties against Miami.

Ya know it's funny. The more I think about it the more I think it's possible that Thompson starts at FS lol.

Just totally walking back what I already said, but it would make sense if they think he's less of a downgrade at FS than Frazier is at SS.

I think the depth chart on the official website is our clue to what will happen with Woods out. Thompson is Woods backup at FS.

Cowboys have already said Thompson is starting for Woods. Woods only now expected to miss two weeks. If Lawrence and Quinn do there jobs against New Orleans, you don't worry about Michael Thomas with Jones on him.

Safety is lean.

The best option would’ve been for them to not to neglect the safety position like they do every single year. The best option would have been for them not to rely on Woods, Frasier, and Heath.
