Were the Commanders defenders were tackling aggressive near and below the knees?

When I played years ago, I was small, I always hit as hard as I could at the knees. I tried to keep my head up, aimed at the knee with my shoulder pads and wrapped up. That was the only way I could bring anyone down. If I wrapped around the waist or upper body I was no more than a speed bump.

This made me laugh, reminded me of my playing days, as I played the same way, anything above the waist I was carried down field, had to wrap up them legs, never with cruel intentions though. I was small enough, I never hurt anyone other than breaking a couple collar bones, never hurt anyone's knees. These bigs guys doing that though puts a lot of strain on the knees, got to be tough on theses guys, can't go high, can't go low, can't lead with the helmet, I wouldn't know what to do out there.

That the Commanders defenders were tackling hella aggressive near and below the knees?

There were some tackles I was surprised Cobb and cooper got up from, or didnt come up limping.

Gallup took some shots low also and now injured(dont know if it was related). Zeke also got swept up low a few times on some of his runs.

They really got banged around in that win. Looking at the game I noticed this, ALOT.

Sam are you from NorCal?

no, football doesn't have to be about trying to break legs. what the OP is referring to is intentional shots to the knee & below when standard form tackle was clearly available.
I agree but it isn't always the case. Especially when the NFL doesn't do anything about it.

yeah, that is my gripe is that they preach player safety but act like they don't know this is happening.

Another thing that grates at me is when the runner is clearly stopped yet they delay blowing the whistle. Then they blow the whistle and like 5 seconds later the mob of defenders pile drives him into the ground with no penalty.

I just reviewed all of the Cowboys snaps on offense.

I did NOT see a significant issue with low tackles.

There are basically 2 types of "low" tackles.
  1. The normal low tackle where the defender wraps up the ball carriers legs.
  2. The bad type of low tackle where the defender hits the legs with their shoulder pads or body.

I saw 3 that might be questionable with regards to being of the "bad" type of low tackle.

If I recall correctly of the 3, it was 1 each on Dak, Cobb and Cooper.

My thoughts were often the opposite in that I was surprised at how often the Skins tackled high and that the Cowboys needed to break more of those high tackles.

Can you name specific plays that I can review?

I didn't notice on Sunday, but you make me want to go look again.

Now, the Seattle playoff game last year...THAT is a different story.

Yeah I did. But they always seem to do that crap. Jay Gruden thing?
Their organisation sucks the past decade + and the players are mad as hell about it. Especially against us. Even more so when we're good.
The Seachickens are dirty tackling **’ers.

I mean, if I’m a defensive back Im going low on every tackle because I am the lightest guy on the field.

The NFL is about the bottom line just like every other business. If something's stopping the cash flow, they'll take care of it. Otherwise, they ignore it. If Jerry Jones whined enough about it then it might change.

first off why not? the league decided nothing near the neck or head, no leading with helmet, no defenseless hits.. going low is the new technique.. Greg Williams getting criticized for teaching it but its the leagues fault blame RG and the NFL..

reality check...this is the new way to tackle low and hard..its football stop crying..i miss the days of Ronnie lott and roy Williams hits..used to be top highlight reel stuff

Stop crying? Aiming at knees and/or ankles is a cowardly act. Why not aim at the thighs or hips? Because you'll get blown back or rushed over. Blowing out knees and ankles ruins careers. Anyone intentionally aiming at a player's knees or ankles should be kicked out of the game and fined heavily.

I don't know about this game.

I know a couple of years ago, Dez was tackled and on the ground and Josh Norman twisted his foot. It looked like he was intentionally trying to hurt Dez. I know it got pretty ugly after that.

I noticed vs the Eagles & Seahawks, they like to drag receivers and RBs down from the hips and land right on the bottom of the legs. Thats how Hurns broke his leg last year. Our guys just bring players down. It's cheap shots for sure that doesn't get called out for whatever reason
