This thread is awesome

This is a horrible indictment against Linehan. Zeke had an easy 23 carries, 111 yards (4.8ypg), and a TD. He even took a series off and allowed Pollard to do his thing.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but if Zeke won't be facing 9 man boxes, he should have at least 1,800 yards this year.

Will be hard to run for 1800 yards if Dak throws for 5000

What this thread leaves out is that they ran a read option. It worked not because of the formation, but because they optioned off of the unblocked defender. They still weren't running into an advantageous front, if it was just a handoff.

Not using RO is a JG thing, not a Linehan thing.

I disagree. If the offense stacks the line of scrimmage so will the defense. So your running back will have to navigate his way through seven of his own teammates as well as eight of the opponents teammates. That's a total of 15 players your running back has to squeeze by. So if you cut that total number down to 11 the chances of succeeding increase. Less traffic is easier to navigate.

Like an ambulance trying to get to the hospital. Less traffic is easier to navigate.

Yes and no. It's still picking a gap, and when the defense has more numbers, they are all accounted for.

In the 2018 play, the Cowboys were in a negative front. In the 2019, because of the read option, it's positive. Dak/Zeke just chose to exploit the gap that Kerrigan didn't choose.

3rd and 1 is exactly why we have such an expensive OL and RB.
If you can’t get 1 yard consistently from that many expended resources, draft picks, and giant contracts, then you should sell lemonade instead.

True, but if your play call has a dozen players infront of the runner clogging up all the holes, then it doesn't exactly help. With some room our Oline excels even more

Link? They ran it plenty 2016. I like it when folks come up with these false statements...lol

This is a pretty amazing overreaction to one play. Zeke had 10+ yard gains on 3rd-and-1 plays last year too. He faced another 3rd-and-1 on Sunday and gained 3 yards. This one play is not "a horrible indictment against Linehan." I'm sure you will see them in heavy sets on 3rd-and-1 this season, because part of offense is mixing things up.

No, I'm not defending Linehan, just complaining about the silliness of extrapolating anything from a single play.

What's funny is these folks act like they never ran from a spread formation until this year....lol

Exactly. This isn't the first time they ever ran from the spread

Frankly i dont want him to run for 1800,thats way too many carries.
Agreed, but I expect several "big gains" from Zeke this year when he rounds back into form. What I mean by that is 15+ yard runs.

This is very feasible for him. The way Kellen Moore has defenses guessing - as supposed to teams knowing we are gonna run it down their throats (then loading up the box to stop it, accordingly).

Run plays and pass plays will look nearly identical. When that happens I trust Zeke vs anybody in the 2nd or 3rd levels. Could lead to many foot races to the EZ.

But no, I don't want 350+ carries from Zeke either. I don't think the way this year's offense is designed it really calls for him to eat that much. This can prolong his career considering RBs have a short shelf life to begin with.
