Nothing says trade value like "we will move on if no trade offer"

Cowboys: "Taco for a 4th round pick or we will cut him...."
31 Teams: "Ummm, we'll just wait."

I assume the point is that if you are lower in waiver claim order and want him, you need to give us something for him or risk another team claiming him. I also assume the teams lower in claim order are thinking it's not a big loss if someone else gets him.

I'll be shocked if Taco is simply released.

Defensive lineman are key to this game. It's difficult to imagine the Cowboys couldn't get at least a late round pick for a young player who was drafted in round one.

I would be shocked also, he is still a young player.

Yup, at this point they know the "value" isn't there. The last way to create something is to say we are going to release him today - if you want a chance, offer us something.

It’s likely the team held him out to guard against injury because they know it’s likely they are releasing him later today.

Jerry Jones will soon give the nod, that allows the ax to fall on Taco despite my earlier insistence that it would not happen. Preparing my crow to eat. Did Cole Beasley leave any of that hot sauce laying around before he vacated? I sure could use some.

Thanks again Coach Marinelli!

I don't get why Marinelli is given the blame for this one.

McClay is the scouting director. Even if Marinelli wanted Charlton, it's McClay's job to give the coaches what they need, not what they want.

Here's an article that talks about McClay being in favor of the pick over T.J. Watt:

https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/...top-draft-picks-taco-charlton-and-chid-431541

It was a misevaluation by McClay's troops. Marinelli likely wants every defensive lineman who fits his scheme. The personnel people are the ones who have to say no.

And then they can't figure out why the guy doesn't want to be there lol. We have 2 sacks on the season tied for 28th and they won't play him when he was probably our best d lineman in camp and preseason. Bunch of bum coaches with big egos it looks like.
My issue is that we wasted time with players that are consistently unreliable to stunt his development.

Gregory suspended, Irving suspended and quits, D-Law injured or suspended 3 years in a row then plays 2 years get paid, and Quinn is suspended. In the meantime everyone passed on Taco Tuesdays. I don't know if he is a football bust or just deflated overtime.

Mike Fish just reported that it will be Taco that leaves the cowboys to get Quinn back on roster - whether by trade or cut ,.. no other player in plans.

Exactly. This was a top to bottom organizational failure.

Yeah and I love McClay. He’s going to lose some. His batting percentage is still better than most. But I find it laughable that Maranelli is getting the blame for him lol.

Funny, just an hour ago he said Charlton, Redmond or Schultz.

Man, he is so plugged in it is just crazy.

All those soggy Taco jokes have to come fruition.. This is just sad. What a waste.
Well at least I don’t have to hear those jokes anymore. And fans who can’t get TJ Watts nuts out of their mouth? You can now rue in peace lol.

Actually, the suspensions should have made it easier on him to make it. Just face the fact he failed all om his own.

Because first and foremost, he's long been the one who has the most input on DL. So even if McClay backed the pick, it's still heavily influenced by Marinelli. The who's and the what's we do along the DL are largely done with the blessing of Marinelli. It's why for a few years Nick Hayden runs out there as a starting DT. It's part of Marinelli's master plan where he's convinced the front office the 1T is a fungible position. They don't need any real players there, just slop that Marinelli will mold into greatness.

So sure, McClay gets blame as does Jerry because he's the one who signs off on the pick at the end. But this all starts with Marinelli and the fact he's largely crafted the organizational stance on how to address the DL.
