Garrett can't seem to handle any mental make-up issue type players.

Jimmy got to Super Bowls by handing Charles Haley.

Taco
  • Taco failed because he was or became uncoachable.
  • He did NOT fail due to a lack of physical ability.
  • Dorance Armstrong does not have more physical ability than Taco.
Was it the Pick of Taco that Failed or did Garrett fail to make Taco accountable?

Has Garrett handled any character issues players?
- They kept Dez happy by force feeding him the ball.
- Zeke has only been in limited trouble.

Garrett as Head Coach:
Taco
Greg Hardy
Josh Brent
David Irving
Dez (eventually)
Rolando McClain
Jay Ratliff
Ahmad Dixon
Joseph Randle
Rico

Others that had issues:
Beasley - Complained on twitter while he was here.
Ryan Switzer - Openly complained to the media.
T.Williams - The 2018 move to IR seemed to be more of a flake out and an long term injury.
Kyle Orton - Faked injury or illness to get cut (I forget the details).

Garrett as the OC, not HC:
TO
Patrick Crayton
MartyB

Way different eras to even try to compare what Jimmy could do versus what Garrett could do with problem players.
I am far from a Garrett supporter but I think Garrett has done pretty well with player-coach relationships, massaging player egos, disciplining players, etc.

Every team has guys who haven’t been able to make it due to off-field issues. Be it coachability, discipline, work ethic, staying out of trouble; every team deals with it.

Since we are the cowboys it gets a lot more burn. Charles Harris has been a complete bust due to his work ethic but plays in Miami so no one says ish

Not to turn into a rah-rah guy for Garrett, but why not mention all the good, solid, stand up players we have/had since he was coach?

Guys like Romo, Witten, Lee, Dak, Zack Martin, T-Fred, Jaylon Smith, Brandon Carr, Byron Jones, Barry Church, etc.?

Very few coaches can handle some of the head cases you mentioned, which is why they were all out of the NFL quickly after being Cowboys.

Garrett is not a true head coach.......just someone holding the title due to our high maintenance owner/gm.

I don't know if you can definitively say Dorance doesn't have as much physical ability. Just looking at a few drills

40 yard dash
Dorance: 4.87 Taco: 4.92
20 yard shuttle
Dorance: 4.23 Taco: 4.39
3 cone drill
Dorance: 7.12 Taco: 7.17
Vertical jump
Dorance: 30' Taco: 33'
Broad jump
Dorance: 118' Taco: 116'

Now Taco has similar numbers and is bigger and stronger, but we aren't talking about some all-pro talent who the coaches didn't reach.

I am sure that part of this is off the field related, but to be fair, he hasn’t done much for two full years.

I guess if he catches on somewhere and sets the world on fire we can then conclude that he had the talent, but right now that’s a bit of a stretch.

Marinelli is a much bigger problem than Garrett. He sucks at evaluating talent and coaching it up as well. I would fire Marinelli now.

It will be interesting to hear from Taco, and hear his perspective, and I’m pretty sure we will be hearing from him before too long.

Plus Armstrong was a 4th round pick. So he will fall into one of two categories- a bargain or "worth the try".

Remember that time Jimmy Johnson cut Jimmy Smith? It happens. There's a lot of blame to go around. The staff for drafting a guy a little early and not properly vetting his character and Taco for not working as hard as the coaches wanted. But I don't think this is something you can pin on Garrett.

Because we can't be happy unless we're running someone out of town on a rail,,, meanwhile this team has miraculously built itself into a contender with solid depth and a young roster with good position coaches/coordinators. Thankfully Garrett had nothing to do with it or he would have ruined it for sure, the jerk.

They may not have the organizational success that New England does, but I think the reason the Cowboys are so quick to ship the "headaches" out of town is they're trying to mold their team/culture in the Patriot cloth.

Either mold your behavior to the "Cowboy way", or you're done. I think in theory, that's a great plan. But you need that dominant and respected figurehead in charge in order for guys to fully buy in. Obvious problem there, though, is that Jason Garrett is no Bill Belichick.

4.92 is super slow for a DE. I know people keep saying it doesn’t matter, but it does.

This quick twitch stuff is nonsense. Taco has done zero so far. If he is going to get it done it will have to be with power. I have been saying that since the day he was drafted.

While no one is The Hoodie but The Hoodie, I think Garrett is more widely respected than people here give him credit for.

Yeesh, that's a murderer's row of misfits. How many were forced on Garrett by Jerry?
Having said that, I bet Jimmy would have got the most out of them.
