This is hardly surprising.

There is enough about Taco where this is probably mostly him, but I wonder if we have reached that point with Marinelli after 6 years that it might be time for a new voice and fresh ideas for the DL.

Geez, its been 6 years of Marinelli already?

Gregory was rated as a top five talent until teams looked into his pot usage and mental problems.

I've heard that, but never from teams. I think he was first round for sure, but I don't know where he would have gone without the issues. Of course, without the issues, he might have been a better player, which would have increased his stock.

How many "first" should it take you? What's the average number of "firsts" the good defensive lines have?

I think everyone on your defensive line should be a first- or second-rounder unless you happened to get lucky with some of your shots after those two rounds. We have gotten "unlucky" with picks like Charlton and Gregory, to some extent; and we'll see on Hill. If you get a stud defensive player from the third round on, you should feel fortunate. They are out there, but it's not that easy to find them.

Frankly, we never should have had to draft Taco because of Gregory. That was the first failure that led to the second one. So our need to draft DEs (or sign someone like Quinn) has been exacerbated by those failures.

Until this year, though, we had not addressed DT with an early pick since 2005 (and we drafted Spears then to play 3-4 end). In a defensive scheme that calls for a dynamic player at 3-tech, this is a sore oversight.

They had a first round grade on Maliek Collins and got him in the 3rd round, he has been very productive when healthy. That's about injuries more than anything.

And Randy Gregory wasn't a failure, he was a lottery ticket. The upside of getting a top five talent in the late second round was so high it was worth the risk at the time, plus the story isn't over with Gregory.

Grades are a good reason to draft a player, but it doesn't change where they are taken. Collins was a third-round pick. I guarantee they had some DTs taken in the first round graded higher.

DeForest Buckner? Sheldon Rankins? Chris Jones? Jarran Reed? Not knocking the Collins pick, but he's not in the class of these first- and second-rounders that we could have had (Buckner or Rankins instead of Elliott; Jones or Reed instead of Jaylon Smith in what was considered a very strong DL class).

Gregory was worth the risk talentwise. He has not proven to be worth it playerwise. Maybe he will ... and I think that's why we got Quinn for a one-year rental, hoping Gregory would get straightened out all the way or the NFL would change its policy on marijuana usage.

I was just thinking, maybe Rod was the one that needed to go and not Taco. Rod should have been gone a few years ago actually.
I know the D improved each year under him, but it has been underwhelming at the same time.

A couple years ago I was hoping Matt Eberflus was getting promoted to DC.

Quinn will get a new deal unless he massively flops.

IF you believe our staff - after seeing some of Rod’s f-ups during the draft recently, I don’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

Yeah, I wouldn't consider that an enlightened decision but it's certainly in keeping with the current herd mentality.

I find more disturbing that we have a coach who went 0-16 when he was the leader of a team and they value his input.
Head coach and coaching a position are two completely different things. I am guessing, pure speculation, soft taco was bothered by the Quinn addition.

Rod stood up for the guy. His guy let him down... out the door he goes. I like that in a coach. Taking responsibility for a mistake.

Is he? Taco lost his job in Dallas for his role in this debacle. What price is Rod paying? Where's his 'responsibility'? See what I'm saying? That's the part that bothers me.

Two people made mistakes here, Rod Marinelli and Taco, actually three because Garrett was banging the table to draft Taco as well. Taco paid. How do the other two?

So your philosophy is to fire every coach that made an error? Come on man. I get you are all over this thing, I get it.

My philosophy is accountability. For everyone involved, not just the player. How is it 'right' that only the player gets fired?

So fire every coach that makes a poor draft pick. Got it.

Andy Reid should be fired for his 2018 draft class.

Yawn...

What's your alternative? A free pass?

Seriously. You want to give me static for expecting accountability when all you want to do is give coaches a free pass?

Lame.
