But Lawrence did not start off like that- hell many on this board thought Lawrence was a bust!
Just because he's got/ getting paid like he's not a bust,,,don't mean he ain't one for 2/3rds of any given season ( minus one, thus faro_O)

His best fit in the Marinelli defense and most 4-3 defenses would be at LDE because that where the power rushers usually play (against RTs) while the speed rushers usually play RDE (against LTs). It's not just left/right. The positions have different technique requirements. The LDE (Strong Side) is more of a 5-tech and the RDE (Weak Side) is more of a 7-tech.

Taco did play primarily at LDE in college.

The issue with the Cowboys obviously is that DLaw plays LDE.

Taco did play snaps at LDE in the playoff game against the Rams; although the specific snaps that I recall were against the run.

Having said all of that, there is not excuse for not doing what the coaches require.

The Cowboys have moved Crawford all over and he also would be best at LDE but he plays DT or RDE and often rotates between DE and DT during games. Crawford early on had wanted to keep his weight low if he was going to play DE or bulk up if he was going to play DT but multiple seasons he ended up playing exactly the opposite position that he had expected to play as he was preparing in the off-season. It's why he stays and has continued to start despite a salary that many fans think is too much relative to his abilities.

Taco just has a loser mentality.
Good post.

The reason I never rag on Crawford like others is b/c what you just highlighted - the guy has had to fluctuate his weight to suit different roles but according to the coaches he's one of the hardest workers on the team and he never complains. He obviously has a preference but he keeps it to himself.

He wanted sacks because that’s what gets a lot of them paid. Not interested in playing the run. Doesn’t want to be a complete DE. He is after a quick way to pay check. When you look at a DE then they look at the sack stat.
Lol I'm sure he wouldn't mind playing the run if also had the opportunity to rush the passer. It's 100% how he makes his money and he should be concerned if the coaching staff is thugging him. From pop warner you reward guys for doing the dirty work. I told my son's coach don't let him run the ball if he ain't gonna block on kick off returns and when he isn't getting the ball. I told him that as well. Guess what he's one of the best blockers on the team.
