The worst thing about the release of Taco

When I see people say this I immediately know that they do not understand modern football.

I will post this one last time so people can understand once and for all that a 3-4 ROLB and a 4-3 RDE are the same player. So much so that most teams now refer to it as "Edge" for either scheme when looking at players in the draft or free agency.

DeMarcus Ware
2004 season - RDE at Troy University
2005 through 2012 - ROLB for the Dallas Cowboys (Bill Parcells, Rob Ryan, Wade Phillips all run a 3-4 scheme)
2013 season - RDE for the Dallas Cowboys (Monte Kiffin runs a 4-3 scheme)
2014 season - RDE for the Denver Broncos (Jack Del Rio runs a 4-3 scheme)
2015 through 2016 - ROLB for the Denver Broncos (Wade Phillips runs a 3-4 scheme)

There are numerous other examples.
Yes, many, but few listed at 236 lbs coming out of college come in to play DE in a 4-3. He is a prototypical 3-4 OLB, and sure Randy Gregory didn't weight that much more but of course we already had him on the roster. So drafting Watt means you are giving up on Gregory, unless you think we need a couple of these guys around and it doesn't address our need for run stoppers. At 270 lbs Taco did.

No, the worst think is they could have just drafted TJ Watt who everyone in the world with half a brain knew was and would be a better football player than Taco. With less overthinking and a little common sense and flexibility, we could be sitting here today with the same exact defense we have with TJ Watt and Thornhill added to it. Makes me sick to think about it and it’s not like those guys have come out of nowhere and no one knew they would be good. Both were consensus no brainer picks that Dallas simply passed on.
They weren't. Taco was rated higher than Watt.

Seems to me the worst thing about this is that we are still wasting our time talking about it. Something didn't work out the way you hoped, pull up you big boy panties and move on.

I was listening to Richard regarding Taco. He stated that Taco did everything he could and Richard was emphatic about that. Nobody had anything against him and it was just a numbers thing according to KR.

With that being said, I wish Taco well in the future. Except for when he plays us.

I just posted this in another thread like ten seconds ago, Watt would only have one spot in Dallas and its LDE where DLaw already was.
And I proved you wrong on that other thread. Sheesh. Still arguing that TJ Watt can only play LDE? SMH

Go watch some college and pro film on Watt and stop spreading falsehoods. You will easily see TJ could have easily played RDE for us and been an edge rusher in our 4-3 D. The problem was Marinelli. Plain and simple.

Exactly! Problem is too many stubborn headed posters who refuse to acknowledge this simply because they prefer to cover up and make excuses for the front office's mistake of drafting the wrong player with our costly 1st round pick.

Its not about position flex, DLaw only plays LDE with a few looks at RDE. But in this defense the DE's have to set the corner and play run defense. DE is an elite pass rusher but he also plays run defense very well, the Dallas front office clearly didn't think Watt could do that (even Demarcus Ware had trouble with the initial switch from 3-4 LB to 4-3 DE).

Dallas rated Watt a better player but they didn't see him playing anywhere but the position DLaw was already in.
And the front office was wrong!!!! .... once again.

At the time of the draft it was a coin toss between Taco and TJ IMO, we were the consensus gods drafting in the first two rounds. With LVE, and the full project T Hill we still kept our irons in the fire.

It's been said that Marinelli was the primary catalyst of Taco being drafted from the start, although the FO surely went along with it. It seemed a shame that Taco could find a way to co-exist with the guy who helped him get his start with the Cowboys. Rod Marinelli is reputed to be a fairly demanding coach. Unfortunately, some players aren't willing to submit positively to that approach.

Additionally, Taco evidently harbored an attitude of entitlement and was hyper-sensitive to criticism, whether it was constructive or not. His negative reactions to the fans on twitter seemed to reveal an over-sensitivity to criticism. I'm hoping Taco is able to overcome the difficulties in Miami that he had with the Cowboys. If not, his future may be foreboding in its nature.

If the reports about Taco are true then it is his own doing he got cut. Dallas did not make the right pick with Taco but at least they acknowledged it and moved on.

And yet here we are nearly 10 years later and Jerry still won't admit the mistake of hiring Garrett.

Seems odd. A numbers thing.. lol. How did he get squeezed out by numbers.

Oops, in the preceding 1st paragraph, I meant to say Taco couldn't find a way to co-exist with Marinelli. My apologies for the error.

It's been said by JG that they wanted to give his spot to Joe Jackson. Of course, they were being kind by avoiding to suggest that his performance just wasn't up to par in his early years. ;)
After his preseason I really wanted to see him play in regular season. He seemed to be putting in the effort. He knew he was auditioning for other teams, we needed to take advantage of that. Lol.

And I haven’t even noticed Jackson on the field yet.
