The worst thing about the release of Taco

So they hold on to him too long like Twill
Because of draft pride and trade him-or his salary for a dr pepper.

Weve done a good job of drafting but they need to get better at cutting bait and trading players

The “worst” (not “worse”) thing is, yet another redundantly mind-numbing thread about the simple release of a draft-bust JAG.

No, the worst think is they could have just drafted TJ Watt who everyone in the world with half a brain knew was and would be a better football player than Taco. With less overthinking and a little common sense and flexibility, we could be sitting here today with the same exact defense we have with TJ Watt and Thornhill added to it. Makes me sick to think about it and it’s not like those guys have come out of nowhere and no one knew they would be good. Both were consensus no brainer picks that Dallas simply passed on.

I stopped reading at this post because it's pointless to go further. The sad thing is, it's not in hindsight. It's what I put in bold.

They made a mistake drafting him and they were smart not making another mistake by keeping him.

It appears that the only reason for his release is because grown men can't get along and there was some drama between Marinelli and him. Probably between him and some players as well.

The thing is Taco seemed to have progressed based on his preseason performance and could contribute this season.

That's what makes this situation look so bad.
Respect towards your employer is a good thing, the right thing, regardless!

Draft status doesn't matter.

It's all about NFL value.

Taco's was very low.

That's not true at all. You know it and I know it. 1st round picks got drafted there for a reason. And there is a consensus of opinions about them. Maybe some slight variation, but NFL draft boards have more in common than not.

The fact that two years in the Cowboys could get nothing for a 1st round draft picks speaks volumes.

Dallas let everyone know that Taco was on his way out, which happens a lot, so teams saved their pick and decided to pick him up after being cut.

This is true, but if the teams were really anxious to get Taco they wouldn't want to bid for him as a free agent against the rest of the NFL. Of course, the Dolphins may have felt the rest of the NFL (or most of it) wouldn't care to bid for Taco.

I think the fact he was once a 1st round pick could have some influence on whether a team is willing to take a shot on him, but mostly teams will weigh what he has done since being drafted. After a few years the league often views players very differently than they did on draft day.

It does, but it is not often that a perfectly healthy 1st round draft pick has to be cut outright because the team could get absolutely nothing for him. For instance, even busts get traded for a conditional pick. Even a guy like Bobby Carpenter got traded for fellow disappointment Alex Barron. The failure with Taco gets magnified by the fact that as hard as this team tried, they couldn't get so much as a conditional 7th round draft pick for him.

Let's face it, we've given up draft picks for the Bene Benwikere's of the world, and Taco couldn't fetch us so much as a swap of picks. That's a pretty glaring indictment.

Maybe for every sack Carpenter should have mimed a sawing motion, or hammering in a nail. Of course, like with Taco building a taco, we wouldn't have had to see it much.

The less the better! I just hope Taco trademarked "Hot Boyz" and took it with him to Miami!

There is no downside to the release of Taco. The FO was patient with this decision and gave Taco ample opportunity to remain a Cowboy. The blame for Taco's dismissal is all on Taco. Now he gets a second chance on a pro team with the Dolphins. The only problem with this is Taco does not have a pro attitude.

I'm kinda tired of people thinking that because he had a good game against the Texan's 3rd string LT that he suddenly turned a corner. Come on folks ... you're smarter than that... aren't you???
