To say the Cowboys are the favorites against their opponent for Week 3 would be an understatement. The Cowboys opened up as 21.5-point favorites against the Miami Dolphins, and along with the New England Patriots opening up as 22.5-point favorites against the New York Jets, becoming the first time since 1987 where there were two multiple 20-point spreads.

However, this is the NFL, and the term “Any given Sunday” reigns prevalent, especially in matchups such as the one the Cowboys face Sunday.

The Cowboys as a whole are riding high. Scoring at least 30 points in their first two contests and averaging 450 yards of offense. Kellen Moore continues to impress with his offense and if they can put up a similar performance on Sunday then it’s safe to say it’s no longer an exception but is, in fact, the expectation going forward.

While the offense has been humming along the defense is still trying to find themselves and nowhere is that more evident than by the lack of production along the defensive line. The team has two sacks through two games which is unacceptable and they know it. Another observation that has popped up is the continued trend of missed interceptions by this defense. Both Jeff Health and Xavier Woods had opportunities against the Commanders but failed to cash them in. Thankfully the return of Robert Quinn from his suspension could be the missing cog that finally gets the defense rolling.

The Miami Dolphins come into AT&T Stadium in full-on tank-mode. The team is trading veteran players in order to amass as much draft capital as possible so they can rebuild the franchise from the ground up. The Dolphins have been outscored 102-10 in their first two games which is one of the worst point differentials through the first two games in years.

Hoping to provide somewhat of a spark, the Dolphins have elected to start 2018 10th-overall pick Josh Rosen for the first time at quarterback over Ryan Fitzpatrick. Also making his Dolphins debut is defensive end Taco Charlton who was picked up after the Cowboys released him Wednesday.

On paper, the Cowboys should absolutely blow the Dolphins out of the water. They need to strike early and strike often. The last thing they need to do is play sloppy football and turn the ball over giving this Dolphins team any glimmer of hope.

Yes, the Dolphins are winless, but as teams have found out, there’s nothing more dangerous than a winless team in the NFL.
