Resigning Maliek Collins at the end of the season will go hand in hand with Trysten Hill's development this year imo. I hope Hill makes him expendable.

It wasn't until week 4 that LVE began to have over 90% of the defensive snaps.

He's got hustle I'll give him that. He ran down a few plays. He didnt make the tackle, but not for lack of effort. As far as his performance on the LOS, he may as well have been the over tackle because he was pretty much stationary eating blocks.

I think it's important he continues to get love reps. Hopefully they keep him in the rotation.

Trysten Hill got trapped on that goal line play. If Thompson doesn't fight off his block it's a score.

We're watching a guy who knows how to shoot gaps but doesn't have a clue about playing football.

that's ok

at this point in his career, it's more important to be able to shoot the gap, than knowing when to shoot the gap

The important thing is how he handles himself this week to get better.

Exactly what I said in a different thread.

That play is not exactly what they call getting "trapped". He touched the QB before the hand-off and was just a few inches from blowing up the RB.

Hill didn’t look like an All-Pro or even a really good player during his Cowboys debut, but he looked like someone who has talent that is worth mining and trying to figure out. That’s what Rod Marinelli liked so much about him after all.

If I’m to be the judge I’m giving Hill a C overall for his debut, because that’s the definition of average. And to be clear being average here is okay.

The writer and I share the same thoughts on Hill
I think the DT taken prior to Hill was Simmons around pick 16 of the 1st round. If their was not a better talented DT at our pick in the 2nd round, we should have focused on a different need instead of a developmental player. Why do we reach so much on 2nd round picks?

He certainly doesn't seem to understand that there is more to the game than getting by a guys shoulder

However, in his postgame interview I was impressed that he seems to realize that he has a long way to go. Said he trusts the coaches evaluations and if they say he's not good enough to be out there then he isn't. Also said he wants to be out there. Gives you hope that he will take instruction & put in the effort. Perhaps the anti-Taco.

Zero production on a pretty decent snap count. I get that Miami was throwing for most of the afternoon, and it's hard for DTs to get stats against passing plays. But I'm guessing he ended up playing 30-ish snaps, and you'd think he'd have something to show for that.

And before people break out the pitchforks and torches against Marinelli, let me remind you that his guy Maliek Collins had another good game yesterday.

That was kind of his rep at UCF, but he has some serious talent if he can get everything put together.

Tillery went at #28 to LAC who was the last 4-3 DT/3-4 DE taken.

After Hill, IMO , the athletic talent at DT dropped. Not to say some guy later can't surprise us all but Hill was last of the SPARQy DT's. And the Cowboys still value SPARQ scores.

From what I recall, they seemed to like Hill early and made the decision on him not after pick 57 went off the board but probably even before the 2nd round started.

I liked Rapp but they were sold on Hill. Hopefully he develops a lot before next year.

"Touching the QB" is not his assignment and had no positive impact on the play whatsoever. All it did was allow the blocker to put him on the ground while the play ran the other way. It probably counted as a pancake.
