I am not a fan of Marinelli. That said, I think we all need to see how this defense looks over the next few weeks. It is possible that Dallas was playing vanilla based on the level of competition. If you remember this D played the best it had over a couple decades last year vs. a Drew Brees led Saints. People are getting on Smith and LVE but really no one has played great to start the season. Every level of the defense has had their moments of good play but not a lot of splash play or turnovers. I think that is the main issue. Fans should see how this defense looks over the next few weeks before sounding the alarm.

This is Marinelli's 7th season with Dallas.

We've had 6 seasons of Bend But Dont Break defense.

I'm not sure we'll be seeing anything different, other than the 4-2-5, which they starting liking last season.

We dont blitz a lot. Its a 4 man rush. Everyone else is back in coverage.

4-2-5 is the most common personnel group in today's NFL. Facing 3 WR sets you want 3 corners. Nickle. So I'm not sure what your point is here.

You can blitz from a 4-2-5 and sometimes we do.

What would the defensive equivalent to KM look like?

Young?

Yes.

Problem: There is no DC out there at all who is younger than 40 (unless I missed something when I looked at them all on Wikipedia just now).

Taking the so-far-so-good defense of his head coach (and former DC) and adding tweaks to it so that QBs have a significantly tougher time making their pre-snap reads?

Yes.

Problem: How would any of us know?

So, can we find a KM defensive equivalent? On both criteria, it appears, no, we just cannot.

But the good news is, neither should we care that we cannot.

LOL. Guess what? That applicant didn't get the job!

Do you know how many former college quarterbacks there are in this country? How many wicked smart former college o-linemen? How many former coaches? It's a dream gig for lots of folks. Paid to watch football?! PFF can accept one out of 200 applicants.

I know they turned you down so are miffed, but your gonna need to get over it.[/QUOTE]

The resume was for a dude that had worked for PFF.

There was a poster here a few years ago that was working for them.

Experienced people are not going to work for what they pay.

The job posting is from PFF. They don't need people to have experience based on their own words.

Again, grading 53000 snaps in less than 24 hours is basically impossible. It would take too many people to ever get consistent results from each of them.

People that are too defensive of them likely work for them. Have fun making $50 to "grade" a game.

Maybe Kellen can coach offense and defense??

Lol.

Our coach teaches technique. We should have just drafted more talent. As for turnovers, its a mentality. Our defense has the ability to develop it, but its a mentality.

Rod Marinelli has enjoyed an illustrious career. Reality? He's old and due for retirement. Coach Richard has done some nice work with the DBs, though I am beyond frustrated with his stubborn insistence on Brown over Jourdan Lewis...and the lack of secondary turnovers.

Now look...this coaching duo could prove me wrong in the balance of the season. This post has nothing to do with changes within the next 13 weeks. We may be Super Bowl bound. We might win it all. If that happens...make Richard DC gawd.

If not...Could be time for changes. A new defensive DC...An innovator. Some real changes. What would a defensive equivalent of Kellen Moore look like? I don't think such a guy is inside the organization.

Jerry might ought to give $10 mil for the Bears, Bills, or Ravens DC. That money aint' capped.

Game 3 and they gave up 6 points... the sky is falling i guess

Dallas is fourth in the league, defense PPG.

If the D is so bad, there are 28 teams willing to trade . . .

Sorry, but the stats don’t mean a lot against cellar dwellers. The defense HAS the talent. Just not playing up to the standard so far.

We've been playing a vanilla defense so far this season. I expect that's due to key players coming back from injury and the level of competition. Expect to see more stunts, blitzing and mixing things up soon. The D scheme NO sees won't be what we've shown so far this season.

If not then we could be in for a long year on defense.

People are really going to freak out after Sunday but when you have a light em up offense you play to only allow FGs. Trading 7 for 3 will get you a win every time.

Defense seems to be more conservative prior to the second half we saw Sunday. But stiffening up in the red zone and holding to 3 is all we can ask for Sunday. Saints will have 400 yards thanks to check downs.

The goal should be win 34-30. Offense scores one more TD and makes Saints settle for one more FG

No. You play to destroy the other side and to hear the lamentation of their women.

I see what you're trying for here, I just don't think offense is the same as defense. Offense is like chess. You have the bad, good, and masters. It's not like that with defense. Sure there's different things you can do, but for the most part you put impact players in position to disrupt the offense.

Also we are 2nd in the league on 3rd down percentage, teams combined 7 for 35, so 20%. They are getting off the field. Also we gave up garbage yards being ahead and teams having to throw.

We've been hurt on defense by some bad penalties more than anything else. The defense is playing well. They're not getting pressure on the quarterback and that's going to be a problem against better teams. I'd like to see them blitz more. In Bob Sturm's Friday column, he showed I think that we're 28th or 29th in the league in sending an extra man.

But bottom line: on both offense and defense, I don't think we've seen anything yet. The blitzes are coming. We'll see more Pollard and Elliott on the field together. They're saving the best for the real competition - e.g. this week's game.
