Are people like Mickey Spagnola allowed to predict a Cowboys defeat?

I can't recall company men like Mickey Spagnola having ever predicted a Cowboys defeat, when they do their pre-game analysis and predictions. (If Spags or Nick Eatman ever has, then someone correct me.)

Obviously, they can't seriously be expecting the Cowboys to go 19-0 undefeated and win the Super Bowl every year. But are there any job-related consequences for Cowboys employees like Spags predicting a Cowboys defeat? Sounds like a prime case of conflict-of-interest.

I listen to Talkin Cowboys almost everyday. Mickey is critical often. His words aren’t controlled by anyone. He’s like certain people on this board , but not controlled.

Mickey was fairly critical of the Cowboys during the Campo years. Well, maybe critical is too strong of a word, but he seemed to accept the reality of the situation once those seasons were in their full miserable swing.

Here’s a little story— when Shan sharif was hired to do cowboys radio he admitted to being a life long Commanders fan(which him and choppy have both come around to being cowboys fans it seems) and choppy said it’s not that big of a deal. That people don’t realize it but Mickey and brad sham and someone else we’re all Vikings, packers, and bears fans and give each other crap when the nfc north play each other. I can’t remember who was a fan of what since I forgot that info but you forget that these guys came from somewhere else too.

I’m sure Mickey probably isn’t really a homer but is just hired to be one.
Mickey grew up a Bears fan.

..on the contrary, I've seen some gut feeling blogs that are released on Friday. Spags and Broaddus have predicted defeats.

Even homers need to have a cup of tea. ;)..

It's been a long while but I've seen Mickey pick the opposition lots of times. He may be a bit of a homer but he is a realist as well when the Cowboys are having a bad season and they have a very good opponent on their schedule. I don't know why you have a problem with long-time company men like Spags and Eatman. Have you got an issue with Brad Sham as well?

Last year Randy White every week predicted Cowboys to win. This year so far Danny White who took his place on the show, has predicted wins each week.

This is on local CBS channel on Sunday mornings.

Nothing wrong with predicting a win each week.

As Mickey is Jerry's errand boy and food taster, he's not going to do anything but toe the company line.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but these guys are employed by the Cowboys organization. If they are obligated by that regard to pick the boys to win each time they play, then they shouldn't be picking at all. I mean it defeats the purpose of them picking if they can't be realistic. We already know who they are going to pick, then why even bother with what they think. I used to be on that site all the time, reading articles they write. I found that during off season the articles usually created a lot of hype for the team, which in some seasons was justified and in others was completely over the top. Once I discovered Cowboyzone, I am mostly here reading the discussions here than reading the articles on DallasCowboys.com. One it is more fun here because you are interacting with people and two we are not obligated to be homers. I rather discuss things with free minds than read someone's point of view which is skewed in one direction because of who signs their paychecks. The only thing I will give them is in some instances, they have more information because they are closer to the team than the fans, information like injuries, contract situations, etc. However those come out in the national media almost immediately anyway.

I dont typically bet against my team either..it happens

however, im picking this weekend as a trap set up road game with too much confidence from being 3-0 from a cupcake schedule , we lose 27-20.. good early wake up call, spill the koolaid and get back foucussed..

hope im wrong

Why would anyone listen to or watch any people employed by their team for objectivity? That's not why they're there and fans listen to Sham and Laufenberg for a reason, the homer call. I don't but sure don't see anything wrong with that.

I like objectivity but not everyone does and the fact is almost every "objective" sports show has to have some anti Cowboys stuff to feed the need the anti Cowboys fans have. So that slant is there, why not a counter slant?

And while on the subject, it would be nice, if on a Cowboys fans site, the word "homer" wasn't written with clenched hands and used too frequently against positive posters. Are some a little over the top? Hell yeah, it's a Cowboys fans site. It easily turns into a Cowboys bash site and I can see why some feel the need to fight back.

Let's see a show of hands of all the posters that openly test their employer's willingness to keep them gainfully employed. Objectivity for these people has a built in governor on it.
