Dak is in no hurry. He probably wants to make sure Garrett gets signed long term first.

Honestly, playing out this season is smart for Dak. He's worked hard, has a nice set of offensive weapons, and is having his best season yet. If he leads the team to a super bowl win, he gets to break the bank and be highest paid QB. If he just has a great season but doesn't win the big one, he still gets top 5 money.

You know, negotiating through the media leads to a ton of misinformation for the fans. I don't think it really matters to those involved, but it leads to some pretty interesting divisions among fans. And I may be off on the numbers, but I remember a lot of fans around here balking at $25 million per for Prescott and I'm not sure if Dallas ever tried to low ball him to that extent, but it's laughable to think some fans were complaining about $25 million. Every week we wait, that number is going up and there is no alternate universe where Dak doesn't get resigned.
I remember some fans and talking heads were saying he should take less then 20 million and they considered that an overpayment. I am sick of talking heads like Cowherd jumping on and off the Dak bandwagon.

The only silver lining is that the Dak slobberers who have been telling people for six months now that they were going to be crying when Dak signs his new deal “any day now”... get to keep embarrassing themselves. One day at a time.

And, if we’re all being honest, this is EXACTLY how this whole process should’ve played out. No matter what side of the Dak argument you are on, it seems we all were wanting the same thing - to see Dak prove how good he is on a consistent basis. Keep playing like he has, he’s gonna be paid TOP QB $$$. Falls off? Then he won’t. It’s that simple.

exactly. I also have more faith in players who bet on themselves.

I hope they do not sign him. If he gets paid $40,000,000 a year or more.... They will have no money to field a competitive team around him. Dak has proven that even if one thing is missing than he is not a good QB.

It is just greed. Call his bluff. Let him go to the Raiders or Bengals and pay more in state taxes and have less endorsements. He should feel grateful, happy, & honored just to be playing for the Dallas Cowboys. I am tired of these greedy athletes.
It's not greed, it's business. He's (through his agency) is trying to maximize his earnings over his NFL career (which is very short relative to other career fields). Just about every player in the league is doing the same, which they should. The BILLIONAIRE owners are sure getting theirs (while paying Goodall about $45M/yr). I have no problem with players getting what they can. They're the ones putting their well being on the line every game.

And you keep rooting for him to suck so your failed analysis can be correct.
I’m certainly not rooting for him to suck but he’ll never, ever, ever, not ever, get 40, without a SB.

He should bet on himself, and if he doesn’t get it done then he’s got to realize even he said he doesn’t yet deserve what Wilson got..

The way things are going at present, it's quite possible that that figure has long been forgotten by most of us. It's gotten to a point where $30 million smackers is sounding like a bargain. It's a bit scary, I know, but Jerry isn't one to skate by on pittances if he sees he'll be rewarded, too.

Exactly. To me it doesn't seem that long ago that the debate on this forum was "is he worth 25 mil or only 20?" We can all see now that was a pipedream. Now some of us are hoping it doesn't go over 35 mil, and it very well might.

The Transition tag is not something you want to use unless you want to test the market value of a player. It works the same way as the non exclusive Franchise tag except you get nothing in return if you refuse to match. The Transition tag is only good for a player that is asking for too much money and you want to keep him.

Right but it is a better option than both Cooper and Dak being fas and only having 1 franchise tag

That’s the main issue right now. I think they are close enough on the money to get a deal done but Dallas needs the extra years to structure it like Zeke’s and make it team friendly. Dak and his people want to cash in again as quickly as possible so they can possibly cash in a 3rd time before he is done. There has to be give and take on each side. I suspect they will settle on a 5 year extension for slightly less than Russel Wilson money. If not, he will be franchised and have a big decision to make.
That’s exactly what I am thinking. Give him slightly less than wilson, for 5 years and give him more guaranteed money and signing bonus as a attraction to sign. He and his agent has to realize that you can’t take to much or Dak will eventually have no one to block for him like he does now. Or no one but rookies to throw to. If you want a competitive team around you then you have to give some. I didn’t like what he was saying about everyone can get paid there worth. It’s not true. The pie is only so big. It may increase some each year but so does the market values. Nothing wrong with being smart but come on. How many people could retire off the signing bonus. Much less the over 100 million in guaranteed money.

I got a very hard time from some posters over the summer months for suggesting that it makes more sense to wait until the 2020 coaching situation is known before signing a QB to a long term deal.

I still think (hope) that this is what is going on as it shows that the front office is being strategic rather than reactionary.

Dak should buy Eli Apple a nice bottle of wine because after Dak torches him tonight his asking price will only get higher.

No way there is another QB brought in no matter who the HC is. If there is a change then it will be Richard or even Moore taking over for JG as they will move him to the FO. Dak will be signed. And hind sight is fun. If they knew Dak was going to look this good (I do think they knew with a healthy O-Line there was a good chance) they would have signed him in the offseason.
