The defense gave up 12pts — 6 of which were directly affected by offensive screwups.

The offense completely choked; insomuch as posting even HALF of their so-far season average woulda won that game.

Our best defense last night came by the refs. IMO

Our defense never tightened up til the redzone and even then it relied on several holding calls on Saints online to kill their drives.

All i am saying is dline is weak at the point of attack and it showed. Need to be more aggressive and tighten up against the run. The confusion saints played and the ability of Kamara was killing our defense.
This makes absolutely no sense. Holding calls are usually the result of an offensive lineman or two trying too hard to keep their quarterback clean. The offense went AWOL in New Orleans. That's the story. The defense pitched a touchdown shutout...that...even with two Dallas turnovers. Good grief.

Unfortunately, the defensive game plan is to let opposing teams get 5 yards at a time until they shoot themselves in the foot. Basically, if Marinelli were to draw up what a perfect game looks like, it would be last night.

And yeah, if not for the refs NO would have put a much bigger number on the board. Of course, that's true for Dallas too. The calls last night were soooo ticky tack.

Defense was not the reason we lost. If you can't score 13 points on offense you're pretty awful.

Played in a game like that in HS. We lost 8 to 6 and on the bus ride home, a lot of guys were complaining about calls and non calls and just all the usual BS. Our Coach stopped the bus and had the driver pull over. He basically said exactly the same thing Sarge. Which one of you guys stepped up and made a play to get us into FG range? Which one of you guys stepped up and made the play to stop the TD they scored? Which one of you guys stepped up to stop the 2 pt conversion? We got held to two FGs, who stepped up and got 1st down in the Red Zone or made a play to get a TD? You lost by two point, if you can't figure out a way to get 2 pts, then you didn't want it bad enough.

Got kinda quiet from there but hey, he wasn't wrong.

I can't blame a defense that only gave up 12 points.
The offense stunk up the place but that 3rd quarter drive they gave up killed us after we scored a TD. I know they only gave up the FG but they couldn't get off the field on 3rd down most of the game.

I just don't understand why, when we look so good blitzing, we refuse to do it more. They ran that three-man line with Jaylon blitzing a few times and it was money every time. That even allows us to keep all our DBs in the game.

The greatest issue with this defense is how risk averse it is. It's the same issue that plagued Linehan/Garrett offenses.

The defense played well and gave the offense a chance to drive down into FG range with 1:45 on the clock. No excuses.

Marinelli likes the BBDB scheme.

Give up yards, not points.

you act like they got ran over. kamara had 69 yards on 4.1 ypc. the team as a whole had 117. there were like two solid runs, the 12 yard carry from kamara that was followed by the 16 yarder from taysom. that's really it.
Agree, 12 points and no TD's to a Saints team is pretty good...even without Brees

2 fumbles and a home clock operator cost us the game.

Been playing that style of D for quiet a while. It works pretty well when your offense can score more than a dozen points.

Unless you are playing a team like the Rams who can finish in the red zone.

I dont think they played well.

Too many penalites.

Too many long drives.

It was the perfect BBDB defense though.

Give up yards and clock. Dont give up points.

Sean Payton is a quality coach. His game plan was tailored made to exploit our weakness on defense and keep our powerful offense off the field.

They basically ran Kamara straight up the middle into our weak DT's and exploited our middle run defense. They were happy take the underneath stuff and eat up the clock.

The problem was that Moore made sure our high octane offense took the night off and played right into their hands running Zeke up the middle relentlessly.

The most troubling part of all this was that we saw no adjustments whatsoever at halftime or otherwise.

Several of us discussed this during the weak. Game plan should have been to open up with the passing game and bring in the run once we got a nice lead.
