Bad player management starting with Witten

First I was happy to see Witten resign with the team. I like the guy and think he will help through the season.

But with less than 2 mins to go in the 4th quarter - no timeouts why is Witten anywhere near the field?

He should never be in on a 2 min offense. He just doesnt have the speed to get down field and make big plays. Jarwin should be on the field. No excuse. That is poor player management. You need to put the right personnel on the field to give you the best chance to win.

I would even go further to say that Pollard should be on the field in that situation over Zeke. He is more shifty type of back - runs better routs in the passing game and better hands catching the ball.

Other issue I have is why is Austin even on the field? This guy hasnt done anything for the team since he has been here. I rather have Pollard playing his spot on the field.

Just seems like Cowboys do not use the strength of their personnel in different situations.

I couldn't possible agree with you more. Jarwin is way better than Witten at this point in their careers too. He is much faster, has better hands and actually gain yards after the catch etc.

Jarwin was the key to winning that game and they didn’t really use him. I was afraid this would happen with Witten returning. There’s a role for Witten on this team but it’s not in the dynamic passing game. He’s more red zone / goal line / short yardage situations.

I'm actually enjoying Witten but if the other team is going to sit in 2 Deep then you have got to expose that area of the field with someone who can expose it.

Blake Jarwin should've been running down the middle of the field every play.

A 2 minute offense isn't just about big plays, and in fact, if that's all a team tries to do with a 2 minute offense they are hurting themselves by limiting what the defense has to protect against. And the reality is, big plays are what the defense is most geared to protect against in a 2 minute situation. 2 minute offenses are designed to march downfield, and you also have to remember the Cowboys didn't have to go the length of the field to win, they only had to get in FG range.

thats why I hated witten coming back. I knew he would be a instant starter based on what he has done and not what he can do now. Garrett like playing players he can trust even when witten continue to get his falls starts and now fumble smh. Witten should be a role player. Instead he gets on the team and gets his job back as soon as he step in the doors after quitting on the team the year before.

(AND I LIKE WITTEN BTW)

Exactly. I’ve said it a thousand times this year, every TD Witten catches is a TD Jarwin would have. The only difference is Dak wouldn’t have to make a perfect throw to Jarwin due to defenders being draped on Witten like flies on poop.

Questionable personnel decisions in Dallas has been a staple for the past 2 decades.

I agree with your take on Austin , but Witten was in there because he can find the openings in the defense better than any of his teammates and he can catch the ball in tight coverage. Witten is a security blanket for every QB that he has played with.

Jarwin wouldn’t be open on a lot of Witten’s catches and he is more likely to drop passes. Jarwin is extremely overrated on this board.

Sounds like another of Garrett's decisions .

Not going to argue with you about Witten, but I disagree on your take that he's useless in the 2 minute O. Jarwin has shown he has something. To me it isn't an either/or thing.

The jury is still out for me on Pollard, but I'm glad he's here. (I could say the same about Devin Smith.)

I'll totally agree with you on Austin. He does some things, but I'm still waiting for that game changing burst to pay off.

U lost me at Austin, agree with everything else...

Witten is being used better than he has been though in at least the past 6-7 years. At least they are giving him more than just 9 yards and turn around patterns.
