What players on Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys would have killed a salary cap? Wasn't that team the youngest team in the league till he left?
How about Aikman, Irvin and Emmitt for starters, all 1st rounders with no rookie cap back then. Then Charles Haley among other top defensive talent!

For the love of God times 2 why did you think I compared the two? Man, you guys really need some reading classes.

Read the title of your thread. Read it again. Read it one more time after that. You’ll see. I believe in you.

Intentionally or not you did.

if u had a jimmy Johnson type coach and the players with their attitude and work ethic of the 92 cowboys u could maybe compare that team to this team but they don't so to even bring it up is a nonstarter

Funny thing is, we were 3-0 heading into Philly, and Philly absolutely killed us. 31-7.

Aikman put up all of 7 points. Emmit was 19-67.

Point? Every team throws up a stinker. Was I happy w/ Sunday night's performance? Oh holy armadillos no. Not even a bit. Terrible game. However, it's one game. I think it's time to step back and see what happens from here before we blow up the whole team. Did Mo learn anything? Will we make adjustments next time?

It's not a world changing game. It was one bad game. No excuses. But, fix it.

Yep. Aikman threw 3 INT's, and the Eagles dominated. One game does not a season make ...

Of course, it's easy to see the quality of that team with the benefit of hindsight ...

But you apparently missed the point. The point wasn't that this team was as good as that team, it was simply that you can't judge a season by one bad game. That's been proven so many times through history that it's indisputable by anyone with a reasonable bone in their body.

That was probably Garrett's fault too.

The Dallas Cowboys started the season as contenders, not true contenders, that's the Rams and Saints and talk about a defending NFCCG having a rough game, 55 to TB at home? How'd you like to feel like that today?

The Cowboys are still contenders, what will separate them and put them in that true contender category are victories over GB and PHL in the next 3 games. Then they get that gantlet of MIN, DET, NE, BUF, CHI, LAR and PHL. Collectively, 22-9 right now and before this season began, I'd bet most of us didn't have DET and BUF in the tough part of the schedule.

With Minnesota, one never knows which team shows up. It will be interesting because Stefan Diggs (who clearly wants out in MIN) may be traded by the time we play them. One less weapon to deal with.

With the 1992 team, of course.

Jason Witten was drafted in 2003. Jay Novacek was the tight end in 1992, and coincidentally he didn't have a single reception in the first 4 games of 1992, Witten caught all 4 of his targets against the Saints. Once again the poor coaching rears its ugly head, if he was catching everything thrown to him why only 4 targets?

I have to admit that after the game, I was on the "fire Garrett" bandwagon as well. By all accounts, the team regressed into their conservative shell and tried to beat their head against the wall. But after reading Bob Sturm's column "Decoding Kellen", boy was I wrong.

This offensive line, which PFF had rated as the best in the league, got their butts handed to them. Maybe you could call it stadium noise, or maybe they were just out physicaled. But when you look at the breakdown, the coaching was fine. So was the play calling. It was the execution that was subpar.

Travis Frederick looked like a shadow of his former self in the game. Even Zack Martin was getting thrown around like a rag doll. Conner Williams was getting manhandled but that is par for the course.

Then of course you had two bad offensive PI calls, a clock that didn't start at the goal line, two fumbles from two of our playmakers. Oh and they only lost by two points on the road.

Now if this team comes out and lays another egg at home against a Packers team with no weapons, I think we can officially put the kabosh on this being a Super Bowl year. The 2016 team beat the Packers badly at home, this 2019 should at least do that, especially given the status of that team right now.

The 1992 my favorite Cowboy team btw... We faced the defending champ Skins on opening day and beat them, then we played the Giants and Cards. The Cards were a below average team.
I agree this is one game and we are overreacting. I hope Kellen Moore learns from this game and we improve.

Jason Witten has been on Dallas since 1960 but I see the sarcasm of the original post is lost. I’ll try again in 20 years when posters are comparing that team to this year’s team. No doubt Jason Witten will still be playing.

What complete nonsense. He fared so-so in Miami because he had no QB other than a washed up Dan Marino. In Dallas, he had a great young QB in place, and in Dallas and through his Miami years, few people were better at drafting defense than Jimmy Johnson.

You should really take a look at that before making such comments. Jimmy Johnson was NOT a guru on personnel, especially on Defense.

His first round picks (4 of them on Defense) were all decent players but nothing great and none really played up the 1st round status. He had some good 2nd round picks, (3 of those on defense) and even one excellent pick in woodsen. Out of 5 3rd round picks on Defense, - nothing 2 of those played less than a year for the Cowboys. 3 4th round picks total - 1 really good 2 horrible. 5 5th round picks - nothing, 6th round - nothing, 7th round was good here, 2 out of 3 picks were excellent with Lett and Marion, rounds 9 - 12 11 players selected, only 2 can be even considered decent to good picks, Kenneth Gant (the Shark baby), and Larry Brown.

So out of 35 defensive picks in his years as HC. Very few of them can be considered GREAT picks.. Most of them were crap.
