Just say if Quinn continues to have a banner year for us in his ony starting year here with the Cowboys
ad he collects 15 sacks en route to All star honors (ala Pro bowl, etc) being that
DE Robert Quinn will be a free agent next year in 2020, he will maximize his prove -it -year and
set the stage on the FA market .....to the highest bidder.

Franchise Tag him ? if Cowboys do not re-sign Dak, that franchise tag would have to be made available for the franchise QB ..so but what of Quinn, Cooper and Byron Jones ?

and we are due plenty of cap amount in 2020 (55 million ?)

i know its so early and he just came off a (controversial) 2 game suspension, but it's looking so promising
for Quinn and what he can do for our much needed pass rush.
If he continues to play to the level he has, the Cowboys won't be able to afford him without giving up someone else. Also he will be 30 before next season. The Cowboys don't pay for players over 30 anymore.

You’re right in the Cowboys usually don't seek out 30 yr old players in FA or trades, but yet this is also one of their own that is making his footprints and impact here – he won’t be thought of as a longer term contract because he is 29, heading into his 30’s.

That’s why I think a more likely 3 year deal could be in the discussion, but if I’m the Quinn camp, I’d make that 3 year deal is really loaded upfront with a sizeable guarantee and something like 3 year, $25 million.

Either we are going to re-sign him …or a contender like Philly ( even with Graham and Barnett) or Seattle could sign him up.
I hear some saying if he leaves via FA , we still win in getting an compensatory pick a year later, and that’s certainly better than getting nothing at all , but that seems like a consolation prize
and we would still be in search for our cornerstone impact pass rusher.

And give out another credit that goes out to Wil McClay's crew with what is looking like a very schrewd personnel move in trading for Quinn with only surrendering a mere late 6th round pick.
He was obviously on the trading block and out there for the taking, and any of these NFC contenders could have had a shot at him too. But we obviously did our homework with his
risky medical background.

After Elliott DeMarcus and Jaylon performance this year's I'm not in favor of giving anybody a big contract. Let other teams let them get their early retirement checks.

This deserves more than a like.

One of the things that New England regularly does is trades players considered among the best in their position before they get an extension. When they do, everyone says "how could they possibly trade that guy?!?!?!" A few years later, they look like geniuses as the other team just badly overpaid for mediocre play.

Dallas should seriously consider trading some of these guys for more picks before their extensions. It might hurt in the short term but if you constantly bring in good draft picks and then pick well, you will do soooo much better in the long term.
