We all understang that. But its worth pointing out that by Jerry conducting business (football business) per Hazey's detailed post, he is effectively giving all Cowboy fans the finger. We the fans continue to hold him accountible. I have redirected my sports dollars into other local sports teams.

Of course.
We can give Jerry the finger by not buying his product.
But, then again what else is there to do in North Texas, other than cowboys, Mavericks, rangers, golf, waterskiing, shopping, movies and dining?

Yesterday’s debacle was a kick in the groin to all us Cowboys fans who have held out hope for nearly a quarter of a century that somehow if we had enough talent, it could overcome a lack of organizational leadership and a lack of a strong head coach. Yesterday was a huge disappointment but I can’t say it was completely surprising.

I won’t waste everyone’s time listing the usual frustration talking points of the last nearly 25 years where the only constant was a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue and the guy in the owners box who bought a permanent GM position for a measly $147 million.

Let me just say that IMO, the biggest obstacle for this team (and every team touched by the Jones cartel) must over come is the JONES CULTURE.

SO WHAT IS “THE JONES CULTURE”? Let us count the ways:
  • It allows a man to name himself GM not by earning it through football qualifications but by being able to write a big check to buy the team. He’s GM til death do us part.
  • It allows that same man to name his children as chief executives in that same front office with no qualifications other than a last name of Jones and the same DNA. Nepotism rules.
  • The owner selects his head coach not based on who gives his team the best chance to win, but who makes him feel less threatened to receive “credit” while also allowing him to micromanage.
  • The owner’s favorite players aren’t always allowed to be held accountable by the HC. Starting with Michael Irvin, through TO, Dez, Josh Brent, Greg Hardy and even Zeke, the owner winks at bad behavior or poor performance without allowing coaches to hold them to account.
  • If the owner likes his HC, he may keep him long after he’s proven incapable of achieving anything beyond a wild card playoff win. Only because it makes him feel comfortable.
Several years ago, Jimmy Johnson famously once said about Jason Garrett (during a 3rd straight 8-8 season) that the Cowboys have a “country club” culture. Jimmy went on to say the players don’t fear enough for their jobs.

Case in point that supports Jimmy’s theory- Brett Maher. You would think after a lousy training camp, preseason and several bonehead kicks (like yesterday’s 33 yard miss) that some new kickers would be brought in to see if we could get someone more reliable.

Nope, not in the comfortable country club “Jones Culture”.

Bottom line problem in the “Jones Culture”: THERE’S NO ACCOUNTABILITY AT THE TOP SO HOW CAN YOU HAVE IT ANYWHERE ELSE IN THIS ORGANIZATION?
Great post. Couldn't agree more. Mediocre GM leads to mediocre results.

And we must always remember it’s a business first. If we want to get Jerry’s attention we should attempt to effect his business. Like at the cash register.
This upcoming game's ratings, which I expect to be less than spectacular, might get his attention. If we lose to the lowly Jets (On any given Sunday) also might get his attention.

So true Bob. For me it’s your last paragraph sentence and that strange little word that I too keep harping on.
Accountability is like the kids’ shows when I was growing up and it would be maybe “a color or a number or a word of the day”

Todays word is “accountability”

and throughout the show would be demonstrated examples of said word.

In the case if this organization it would be a demonstration of Lack of Accountability.

it’s a terminal disease.

Maher as still being employed is the most recent perfect example of lack of accountability.

So true brother. When any organization has a lack of accountability at the top, it infects the whole organization downward. Name one Jones family member who will be held “accountable” for failure. And name one other NFL organization besides the “Bungles” that allows this kind of nepotism.

The Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks have both won championships since the Cowboys last won one. Even the Rangers have won two American League pennants since the Cowboys last NFC championship. Jerry’s made a ton of cash and got a gold jacket in the HOF as a “contributor” which translated means he got in the HOF because he made a lot of money for the other owners. As a football GM, he’s been mediocre to be generous. Apparently Jerry counts being the “most valuable franchise” as “winning”.

other than Jay Gruden or Garrett..I can't think of anyone else. MAYBE Kellen Moore...but that would be a Gigantic leap of faith on many fronts.
Yep that's all that's going to work with Jerry

I hear ya but consumers or fans who are sold a faulty bill of goods are often called suckers. Just saying and not implying it refers to you.

Our managment has finally managed to amass the most talent our team has had in a decade (arguably the last 25 years) through the NFL draft. So we do buy into that. However, we are suckers for not demanding the team get rid of the weakest link that is our coaching staff, since all this great talent is inevitably going to be squandered as our track record has shown. It just a cycle of excuses every year. No injuries, no suspensions this season. The team has come full circle this year and the fan base realizes it. This season should be called the "Season of No Excuses".

Jason Garrett is paid 6 million per season , has 10 years ...

Has cashed 60 million dollars (not earned, cashed) .
As much as we all belly-ache over what Garrett earned or didn’t, he did!

We all watch the games or attend said game. We all still buy or family member buys us hats, mugs, jerseys. We’re all in it, like it or not. We’ve all bought in even though in here we say we haven’t.

Bingo! Right on bro. Accountability. No more excuses. Then to face a Brees less Saints squad and an injured Pack team without their best receiver.

Everything this year sounds like excuses because everything has been lined up for them to succeed.

Good post and I couldn't agree with ya more...
