Jones isn't going to fire his adopted son so early in the season, or during the season at all. He will get this year to turn things around and earn an extension, or not and be gone.

He wasn't extended for his current contract until he was. You need to familiarize yourself with how the Jones boys have dealt with Garrett in the past if you want to know how this thing works out in the future. He gets an immediate new contract once the season is concluded. You can go ahead and cry now.

And he was extended after earning it with a 12-4 record. If he does that this year, I don't think anyone would have a valid reason to argue it. But if he doesn't, or worse yet ends up with a worse record than last year's 10-6 which didn't earn him one then? People can and will have every reason to argue that.

I think barring a "Wade-like" collapse where the team clearly quits on him, I see little to no chance whatsoever that Jones would make a change during the season.
It's funny but things were going so poorly last Sunday that I was having flashbacks. Coincidentally, the Wade collapse also occurred vs Green Bay. But then the Cowboys seemed to wake up and respond at least to some extent.

And that's why he's refuting everything. This season is not lost, and there are no reasons to say anything that might undermine it or the head coach. Nothing to be gained.
