I knew LVE played bad but not that bad. Looks like some of the usual suspects on the list.

Jaylon didnt have a great game but he was wwwaaaaaaayyyyyy better than lve
I don't want to make it about who played better. Coaches around the league have said VanJaylon is best linebacker duo in the league. It's a coaching problem. I have noticed Lee is playing alot more in the three linebacker set. Last year our best formation was when we had two linebackers. We need a better scheme.

They play 4-2-5 too much.

Nickel is a pass D. Not strong vs run.

Also this so called area of weakness has been a festering boil in the defense before Richard was even brought onto the staff. But I'd be okay if they fired both of them along with Jason Garrett and had the next coach (hopefully Lincoln Reilly) pick his staff.

Why the KRichard hate?

He's not the one who designed this BBDB crap defense.

Legion of Boom doesnt play BBDB.

Richard has been calling the plays for a year, and is "Passing games coordinator and defensive backs".

He gets too much of a pass on the problems on defense.

I still would like to know what happened to Jordan Lewis. He's been our best CB this year.

I'm not ready to throw Richards under the bus. Its still Marinelli's DL stinking up the joint.

Everyone is calling for a JG mid season firing... that won’t happen for a variety of reasons.

But if the D keeps playing like this— I can see Rod getting the blame and the axe and Kris getting bumped up to DC.

Devastating performance by the whole unit on Sun... just got owned by A Rod and Jones all day. No turnovers— again.

Great question without a doubt in my mind it is talent acquisition.

Defensive scheme is pretty stale too. Seems the rams opened the flood gates and teams now know how to attack this defense. ......well, good teams anyway.

I agree the whole point is to win against the good teams without Dlineman that are above average our talent at LB is doomed for failure IMO.

2. Joe Thomas . 70
I watched the game with family so I didn't jot down any notes like I usually do, but I kept seeing him showing up. This makes sense.
Xavier Woods 53.9
Jeff Heath 39
They are simply not good.
1. Tyrone Crawford 73.8
Surprised me. Didn't think he played poor or anything, but didn't really stand out.
Robert Quinn 51
Was a one-trick pony this game, outside rush, tackle escorted him beyond the pocket.
My daughter, who can be awful to watch Cowboys or Lakers games with, was screaming the whole game, "What the [heck] happened to Vander Eisch?!?" She felt he was playing like he was hung over.

Crawford only played 23 snaps. So, it might just be the small sample size. He was pretty fresh when they played him.

DL is where we've had injuries and haven't spent resources. Except for DLaw, who is coming off of injury, and IMO is good but not great in the first place. Woods out. Crawford mostly out. Covington and Quinn have been better than expected. Armstrong showing up. Collins not living up to camp hype.

Our most obvious dropoff has been with our superstar LBs. Our defensive coaching hierarchy is a little odd, with Richard calling the plays and being Passing Game Coordinator. Is Marinelli much more than the dline coach? Who's the Running Game Coordinator? Do we have one? Does Marinelli or Richard coordinate the LBs into the overall scheme? Are they the redheaded step children of the defense?

Dline has what it has. DBs not the problem. LBs, run game, and play calling. I'd guess most of this is Richard. At least the play calling certainly is.

I would cut DLAW some slack but he delayed his surgery and used the injury as a pawn in negotiations. So, he's getting criticized for poor play. Good. Its his own fault.

The LBs are regressing in part b/c the opposing OL is getting to them. The Job of the DL against the run is hold their ground and let the LBs run free to the ball carrier. Are DT's too often get fooled and rush upfield exposing the LBs on runs or just get blown off the ball. The rest is just poor technique. Whose the LB coach anyway? Ben Bloom? I think he's the one that needs to be looked at.

Hard for me to blame Bloom. I don't see position coaches as responsible for scheme - assignments.

I remember a game where the coverage focused on Lee explaining to the coaches that the assignments on the play were impossible to fulfill. To my eyes, the LBs are hesitating because they're being targeted for a bind in their assignments.

I think you're wrong about the dline's responsibilities in the defense. Marinelli wants them getting upfield if they can and where they think it makes sense. That does expose the LBs to the oline more. That's a tradeoff he's willing to make.

Without Woods, we don't have a 1T who can hold his ground even if the play calls for it.

I don't blame DLaw for his negotiating tactics or his play. He's playing like the very good but injured player I think he is. The blame I have with DLaw is for the front office paying him instead of moving on. And also, Jerry got outmaneuvered on the negotiations, but still wasn't willing to fold a bad hand. That's a big Jerry failure.

I’m always suspicious of coaches whose reputation rests entirely on having historically good talent, like Richard.

I don’t know at what point Jerry’s gonna figure out that rushing four and playing eight yards off just doesn’t cut it anymore.
Especially when 2 of the four are not starting quality.
