There are a few WR types out there.

You got the burners, who can stretch the field, but most of those aren't great in the short game. Some are like Ty Hill.
You got the athletic/physical freaks, who can outjump anyone, be hard to tackle, and can run a few routes but still be unstoppable at times.
You got the route runners, like Cooper, who also has very good acceleration/speed, to gain even more separation.

Then you have those rare generational players like Megatron who could do all of the above.

Dez was a great physical freak WR and Cooper is a great router runner styled receiver.

It's silly to say one is better than the other, as a general comment, as both had different strengths.
Just be glad we've been blessed with great receivers to make our QB's lives easier.

Not necessarily... Momentum is everything and with that play, Green Bay had it all.
Not only did it take away 7 points for Dallas, but it gave Green Bay great field position.
We score on that drive and it’s like a 14 point swing... and we’d have the momentum.

Lolol..GB could start on their own 1 yard line and they'd march down the field..

Because he's a WR. You miss QBs and guys in the trenches, you don't miss WRs unless they are legendary players. Cooper is not that.

He is not just a wide receiver. He makes the team better. He also makes defenses account for him. I think he's elite. If he leaves who will replace him?

he's a great player, at the same time he's made some terrible mistakes recently that may have cost us games

so what I'm saying is he's the quintessential Cowboy

We are 3-2 right now with him. Losing 2 games in a row and partly his fault.

How about just getting a roster of good WRs? They are in FA every year. Show me the last team that needed an "elite WR" to win a championship? They aren't needed, they are luxuries. If your team revolves around a WR or an RB, you have major problems.

We tried getting a committee of good wide receivers before. It failed miserably. Why do we need to settle for mediocrity as a team? We already have a mediocre coach.

LOL we didn't have "good wide receivers" last year. We had a bunch of nobody TEs, one year wonder Hurns, rookie Gallup, and a decent slot receiver.

I would make more of an argument for Terrell Owens. Dez had a habit of disappearing in big moments. Also had poor field awareness and wasn't a strong route runner.
Owens was a bit past his prime when he was here.
He was still great though, and put up nice numbers.
Too bad he was hurt for the Giants playoff loss in 2007. By the 2nd half, he was just hobbling around.

Lies

pull up their numbers

Peak Dez was on par with Megatron, but not a non-peak TO? :lmao2:

Peak Dez relied on his freakish athletic ability, burst, and run after the catch skills to put up those numbers. He was never a good route runner; which is why his game suffered after those ankle and foot injuries slowed him down.

I always liked Dez. He was one of the most passionate Cowboys ever and too many people misunderstood him. But receivers that aren't great route runners do not age well and that's ultimately why Dez is no longer in the NFL.
