How soon can we cut D-Law and how much dead money will it cost us?

Tank was never a great player. He was a “good player” that feasted against bad teams and then got hurt enough that many thought if he would get healthy that the sacks would naturally come. The problem with that line of thinking was that most of the time when it really mattered he couldn’t sniff the QB.

While there is still time for me to be proven wrong, I said that the red flag warning signs were there: 1. Mediocre player wanting top money, 2. Preoccupied with “getting paid” 3. Ran his head like Dez. 4. Never really played up to the expectations. 5. Held the team hostage (even to his own performance detriment).

The “odds” of this contract being a “rue” sort of contract from its inception were overwhelmingly high. You don’t pay Mack money to anyone other than Mack. We are getting “bent” on this contract so far, and unfortunately I expect that to continue.

Jerry should have stuck to his guns on this one.
We may rue the Elliott contract at some point too (because of similar warning signs) but my best guess is no where near the rue on Tank’s will be.

We are also probably going to rue not paying Dak and getting it over with long before now.

Very good post!

Off the top of my head, the only time he genuinely showed up big in a meaningful game was against the Lions in the playoffs.

Other than that, lots of QB sacks against mediocre teams

He said all the right things before getting his payday though, ya know? I’m pretty shocked that he gave up and got as comfortable as he has

No. He didn’t. He just talked about getting paid. He also held out on surgery.

If you want to argue you thought he was an elite player (even though he’s not) I can see that as just being misguided, but to say Tank said the right things, that’s not even in the ballpark.

They've known him for four years and they still give him a contract. Unreal.

Yes, he had the strip sack in that game but he was young enough teams weren’t really giving him as much attention.

Through the media he said the right things.

And you must have me confused. I’ve never said, nor will I ever say, that he’s been an elite player

Thread is as title says. Dude is overrated as hell. He got paid and now he thinks he can just suck cause he has nothing to worry about. Thoughts?
If you spend much time on social media looking around Cowboys' fan groups or on Twitter, you might see someone say Dlaw isn't playing well or isn't worth the $105 million dollar contract he signed in the offseason. (tongue in cheek)

Those people would be wrong. They're the same people that spent the last two years arguing that Dlaw didn't deserve to be paid like a top five edge player in the NFL. Fans, as yourself, look at Lawrence's sack and tackle for loss totals and come to the conclusion that he's not playing well. However, if you spend a reasonable amount of time looking at his play or even some metrics that provide context to the first four games of the season, then you come to realize that Dlaw has not only been good, he's been great.

His impact goes beyond the traditional box score or stat sheet. As much as I like stats and what they can imply, a singular statistic, like sacks, often leaves us without a complete picture of a player's value, especially on defense. Dlaw is one of the most well rounded edge players in the NFL, make no mistake. His impact isn't always going to show up on the broadcast or in the box score, but his impact is felt, nonetheless.

Through the first four weeks of the season, there isn't an edge player in the NFL that's seen as many double teams as Dlaw.

This is sad.
Thinking about cutting someone they gave a bucket of money.
Just sad.

I like Tank, really good the last 2 years. A lot of production, ton of effort.

he’s dropped off this year. Injuries? Satisfied? I’m willing to see if the engine ignites over the final 10 games.

It’s not totally his fault the Jones twins tend to WAY overvalue “their guys”

If you're able to see what others can't see, you should be a coach. Or at least a scout.

Thread is as title says. Dude is overrated as hell and I’ll happily eat my words for saying we should have paid him. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for not showing up since he’s probably rusty from injury and getting double teamed, but enough is enough. Getting “doubled teamed” isn’t an excuse. People like Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack, and even Myles Garrett get double teamed but still make big plays.

Great guys produce *while* getting double teamed.

DLaw last two games - 0 sacks, QB hits, and TFLs.

We signed DLaw knowing he was holding out on his surgery, wouldn't make camp, and would spend much of this year getting healthy and up to speed. That should have been factored into the contract decision.

DLaw is a good to very good DE, who will likely have a meh season this year because of his contract negotiation tactics *despite* having Quinn tear it up opposite him.

Flushing the 1st rounder on Taco and the 2nd on Gregory are big reasons why Lawrence got paid. Draft picks are important.

Taco is looking like a first rounder with Miami. Leads Miami with sacks, has more tackles than anyone on our dline.

Super.

I just hope Hill ends up better than "average". I think he'll probably get there, at least (under a different staff), but that'd be another premium pick basically flushed like a turd if he doesn't get beyond that.

A 1, 2, 2 and the only thing we have to show for it is Hill. That is painful.

Quinn has made a much bigger impact! By the way, someone mentioned Gregory. Any news on him?

How about inside? Info on Woods and Crawford?

Relax, he'll be released around 2024.
