At worst, I think Williams is the best Swing Tackle option this team has had in years. I don't love him as a RT, long term, but I think he could do a serviceable job there if need be, for a short stretch. I like him a lot more at LT and I even think he could probably do a nice job there. I think that's his natural position. Having said all of this, lets don't get crazy. Williams in in his second year guys. This kid is 22 years old. He's not what he will be when he's 25. I think it's very short sided to just give up on this kid, at this stage. Especially based off of no real data. I don't believe that Williams has played as poorly as a lot of people suggest but it's here nor there. We need to develop this kid and not be in such a hurry to off him IMO.

Mostly agree, he’s really not built to be an OG. Swing tackle and eventual TS replacement (could happen before end of CW’s first contract) is where his spot is. If Looney or someone else could do better at OG, they should make the change.

Connor looked decent at UT because they used a zone blocking scheme and it hid his shortcomings a lot. He easily could have benefited from another year at college. But in the NFL, you don't zone block like that. You go man for man. And he is not good. And is way too undersized and weak to play G at the NFL level. This was a panic pick. We wanted the TE the Eagles took but when they jumped us, we had no backup plan. And picked this dude who was not anywhere close to a 2nd round talent.

No but you cannot keep status quo either. His play is poor.
I think he needs another year in the weight room. we can't stack up losses while we wait for him to bulk up. sit him another year and if he's not ready next year, move on. He looks like another wasted 2nd rounder.

Man people mark the Cooper trade as the turning point last year but I mark the Conner Williams benching/injury as the turning point. Fromm that point on we were able to run to both sides of the los instead of to the right mainly. He's not gotten better and is easily over powered but since he was a high draft pick this org feels the need to justify the selection.

Just listen to What Nate Newton had to say about the offense and how the Defense should have responded when Dak kept getting lit.

He's just too raw. They put him in a bad spot by drafting him and moving him to guard as a 21 year old rookie. He is currently a project and will be for the next few years but they were arrogant in thinking they could insert him into the starting lineup immediately. Connor McGovern is actually lucky to be getting an unofficial redshirt this season due to injury as he's also very young/inexperienced.

I feel like most rookie guards and centers are 4-5 year college players so they're already more developed.

That is an urban legend the ESPN crew made up on draft day. When Philly made the trade to move ahead of Dallas and pick TE Dallas Goedert the Cowboys were already on the phone with Conner Williams telling him he would be the pick.

Anyone paying attention to that draft knew Dallas was going to pick an OG high to plug in as the starter. Dallas was hoping it was going to be Will Hernandez but the Giants took him at the top of the 2nd round. When I saw Conner Williams drop past the 40th pick I knew he was going to be the Dallas choice at 50.

Hernadez would have been like Larry Allen with this OL.

@xwalker yo I just found those plays in 5 mins imagine going over the coaches film for 6 games.
That laundry is dirty ...:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
