Looking at our current personel on defense, what defensive coordinator would get the best result?
Doesnt he run a 3-4 thoughChuck Pagano, I believe he was given a 4-yr extension at the end of the 15-16' season by the Bears. So, he should be available to pick up by the end of this season.
I don't have faith in Richard nor Marinelli to lead this defense.

We seem to run a weird hybrid of Gus Bradleys scheme mixed with Tampa 2. When you look at what Seattle did on there defensive line, we have never replicated that. Seattle always placed some emphasis on a big DT being able to stop 1st down runsNot knowing which coaches run which scheme, I'll just say anybody that doesn't run the 1998 Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense in 2019 expecting similar results.
Dallas' defense is simplistic, predictable, and outdated. It works at times, but even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Alot of 3-4 teams these days use a 4 man line on pass downs too. In base you could probably put Lawrence on the weakside and sub out QuinnD-Law and Quinn could suffice as stand up rush LB's; just can't drop them back into coverage.

One option if we wanted to go with a Gus Bradley could be Dan Quinn who was Bradley's defensive line coach in Seattle. He is probably going to get fired after the seasonAgreed. Trying to run a certain scheme without the correct personnel understandably causes problems.
A coaching change could have alot to do with those positions being addressedCoaching change will only get you so far.
Unless the DT and S positions are addressed and upgraded all you are doing is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
We have had two good defense in the last 10 years. 2009 and 2018. One thing they had in common was the ability to rush 4 and get pressure, as well as using well timed blitzes to bring additional pressure situationally. At this point, I don't know anymore. We've had so many defensive minds over the years, all touted as being the answer, and all of them have flopped.
Wade Phillips was hired because of his aggressive 3-4 defense, which was supposed to be an upgrade from Parcells' conservative style. Then, Wade's criticism was that his 3-4 was too predictable so they brought in Rob Ryan, who was known for bringing different defensive looks, moving players around, etc. Well that didn't work either so then they scrapped the 3-4 for the 4-3, brought in Kiffin and Marinelli to run the stuff that made the 2000s Bucs great. After 7 years, that isn't working either...even with the input of young defensive minds like Eberflus and Richard.
Honestly wouldnt hate it. The difference between him and his brother was that Rex knows when to blitz. As opposed to Rob who blitzed so much his scheme became unsoundRex Ryan.
