How do you define Jerry Jones as both an owner and general manager?

To give perspective on Jerry Jones as an Owner, Clint Murchinson had the Dallas Cowboys as most valuable sports franchise after he hired Tex Schramm, Gil Brandt, and Tom Landry, all are in the NFL Hall of Fame. His personal and business wealth was valued at $1.25B in the late 70's.

Why isn't Clint Murchison not in the NFL Hall of Fame for having the most valuable sports franchise, hiring 2 Hall of Fame NFL Contributors and 1 Hall of Fame NFL Coach? He definitely had more success than Jerry Jones as an Owner and Tex Schramm had more success as a GM. However in the end Clint Murchinson health failing lead to bad investments, bad times, and bankruptcy (personal and not business or Dallas Cowboys). However before that, Murchinson sold the Dallas Cowboys for a sports franchise record $83M in 1984 that was sold to Jerry Jones for a sports franchise record $140M. Clint Murchinson paid the NFL $600K for the franchise.

So comparing value on a simple % change basis Murchinson made +13,700% on his investment and Jerry Jones has a value of +3,470% YTD on his investment (that could change as he has not sold). However, it only took Murchinson about 20 years vs. Jones 30 years.

Wait! When did the Dallas Cowboys became America's Team? Who was the Owner? Who was the GM? It was not Jerry Jones.

IMO.
Jerry has always been a good owner.

GM Jerry - in the first 4 years and the last 5 years has been good.
The time between then.......

Jerry is in the hall because he made the league a boatload of money. He's still a terrible GM and Owner.

He’s actually in the HOF as a “contributor”. He has certainly been very influential in the way the NFL has evolved as far as how much more lucrative it has become for the owners. His contributions as a GM have not been HOF worthy.

Just a question..........other than retaining a poor GM for over two decades and only hiring puppet type head coaches rather than hiring a qualified football guy what has he done that makes him a good owner? I'm not talking about him building his personal wealth 50 fold.................which by the way wouldn't have happened had he bought any other team..........the success the cowboys had before he bought them as an iconic sports institution has done more for Jerry Jones than Jerry Jones has done for the Dallas cowboys.

If you would've asked me this question back in 2007 I would've said Good owner, Bad GM. These days I would say a Good Owner would've fired the GM, so he can't be a good owner...

If I’m being brutally honest, over the last two decades we’ve had more in common with the Lions or the Browns, sure we’ve had a few more 17 game seasons then they have but we have been a .500 team. (Stat geeks I am over simplifying for effect, bear with me) And yet, every season, year in and year out we are discussed in national media right next to the Patriots, the Packers, the Seahawks, etc.
Having that kind of presence in the football world without the winning team to back it up is... insane. But that’s where JJ is at his best.
You may not like his football decisions, but you have to give credit where credit is due.

Correction, great businessman and saleman. As Parcells said "You are what you are" referring to the only thing that matters WINS & LOSSES and in that light, Jerry is a terrible owner.

Right and why this generation he’s a bad owner and bad GM. 50% got it wrong on that one alone. Overall more than half don’t get it.

Good owner bad GM.

Basically so far about 30% get it this era. The rest are either trolling, don’t get it or more casual type fans.
