I’d agree with Cap era assessment but the problem is when these greater QB did have the supporting cast around them they took their team deeper or all the way.

IMO Romo had a good enough team probably only twice when healthy to go further . 2007 and 2014. But we missed both opportunities.Unfortunately didn’t have more opportunities. And with Dak, he’s had 2 opportunities to advance further and missed both of them.

It’s all about making the most of your opportunities because you never know if you’ll get back again. Most of great ones have their best games on the biggest stages.

You just remember the great games.

All the greats—Elway, Montana, ARod—lost a ton of games in the playoffs. The difference between them and, say, Romo is they made the playoffs on a consistent basis.

Your odds of winning the Super Bowl in any one year are slim. You increase those odds by making the playoffs more often than other teams. Winning a Super Bowl is not a one year goal. It’s a five year goal. The more you make the playoffs, the more chances you give yourself.

Garrett has had almost ten years and has yet to make the playoffs on a consistent basis.

And what QB would we get in return? We're getting beat in the tank race by Miami, the Bengals, and a couple other bottom feeding teams. Dak has been fine so far and honestly, we aren't that good at drafting so I highly doubt whoever we get to replace him would be better than what we have in Dak. QB's aren't a dime a dozen nowadays. Very hard to find a competent QB. No guarantees how a player from college will look in the NFL. We need to trade someone like Byron Jones. He's not great but he has some value.

I do not know what we would get in return but good QB's have been all throughout the first round here lately so the main thing is just to target a guy and see what happens.

I would even think about trading Tyron Smith too if we could get some real quality for him. He's regressing and if we can cash in i'd do it. If not then just keep him.

That’s exactly what I was saying. They had limited opportunities.

Garrett has had more success than any other puppet this era.

The only question that matters is, does it look like Garrett is outcoached every loss, even by a team like the Jets? If the answer is yes, then he should be fired. Garrett is actually a horrible coach, not just a mediocre coach. Jerry would realize this if he ever had the intelligence to hire a new coach.

It seems to me- at least to my eyes watching the Cowboys-Jets debacle on TV last Sunday- that Jason Garrett is losing or has lost the respect of his players. Unless you have had consistent success, most coaches have an expiration date in the locker room. And it usually takes less than 9 years.

And there’s a simple explanation why: After nearly 9 years as head coach, it’s discouraging to these players to continue to work for a guy that’s not inspiring, not getting better, and essentially has very little power. They already know it isn’t going to happen with Garrett. Even shorter answer: It’s discouraging to play for a guy who’s simply this powerless and passionless.

When I saw the comments made by eaglets HC Doug Pederson essentially guaranteeing a victory Sunday night in Dallas and compared that to Garrett’s weak response, (“I hope we win”) it’s no secret why Garrett may be losing this locker room. I would rather play for a HC who takes public risks and shows confidence in his players than to hear some milk-toast drivel about “having a good day” as a part of “the process”.

When you haven’t won much for two decades plus, having a HC who keeps doing the same things and expecting different results, it has to be mind-numbing for these players.

The only way Garrett could somehow regain the respect of these players who are risking their long term health every week, would be to start acting like he’s something he’s not. A great leader.

Jerry Is closer to 80 than 70. How many seasons is he going to throw away on a guy who doesn’t have what it takes to win?

Excellent post Hazey! IMO, garrett is in charge of game-time clock mgt and little else. The Jones boys determine starting lineups based in investment and draft order rather than merit. Plus you can take the Pats roster from last year, put them in the Garrett "system", and in the Jones boys country club culture and you will see a super bowl winning roster underachieve due to the aforementioned reasons.

Jerry has been our phantom hc since about 1997 except when parcells rebuilt our roster into a super bowl contender. Jerry set it up for maximum credit and minimal blame. Our roster is expected to mk a deep playoff run with a hc w/o power, an absentee unqualified gm, and a culture that values appearance over substance.

This roster has its share of gutless, underperforming players, most of which are those recently guaranteed tens of millions of dollars. But then again, the Jones culture almost enables this behavior.

Our franchises org chart is not a pyramid of authority and accountibility. Rather, it is a Jerry/Stephen centric hub and spoke hierarchy where all report directly to the Jones cartel. If a player is cool with Jerry, he has no accountibilty to the hc, assistant coaches, or even team mates.

These elements are an excellent case study of organizational dysfunction, and I refer to dysfunction where it really matters: wins and losses, deep playoff runs. I love the Cowboys and have since 1963. Its unimagineable to think Jerry has sunk our proud franchise into the worst 24 stretch in franchise history. Jerry's middle finger is proudly extended to all Cowboy fans of all ages. Remember "Hope is not a strategy".

What's been interesting to me is the massive outpouring of criticism against Garrett across the league. He's not just losing the respect of the team, he's lost respect around the league, and it's almost like everyone across the league is staging an intervention to tell Jerry to dump him.

Garrett should have been fired after 2017’s embarrassment in Atlanta. Garrett has wasted multiple seasons because of his inability to coach his team through injuries or a myriad of NFL DC’s figuring out how to stop his vanilla ice cream offense. He’s an embarrassment.

The fact that Jerry pretends he’s anything resembling a real NFL HC is just further proof that Jerry is the Naked Emperor and he’s surrounded by fools who tell him his clothes look good.

Exactly. And how many NFL teams will reach out to Garrett after he leaves Dallas (if he ever leaves Dallas)?

Should have been fired during those 8-8 years. Losing to each of our rivals in a play-in game was enough for me.

The message runs stale in all locker rooms eventually when not winning. I am surprised Garretts has lasted this long.

If this year's team doesn’t make the playoffs, in 9 seasons, Garrett’s teams will have only made the playoffs 3 times. So 33%. If we do make the playoffs, it’s still only making the playoffs 44% in the Garrett era. Wow.

You’ll get to see how it finishes out. But the first sign of trouble should’ve been when Garrett inherited the most prolific passer in team history and a generationally gifted pass rusher and could do nothing with them.
2008 and brad johnson was all you really needed

I've not really had a lot of respect for this franchise n awhile. Love? Still there. But the devotion to mediocrity was hard to stomach. I watch on Sundays even with a touch of guarded hope. 3-0 was good, but history said don't get used to it.

So nothing has really been a surprise since then. Except for the jets game. That was inexcusable.

Til someone else is driving, we are not going anywhere. So I'll sit here and stare at the flowers til something better comes along fr us.
