10 Years and Jerry is looking for answers to keep Garrett? If you haven't seen it by now, I doubt you will see anything now.

Hint to Jerry: there are no reasons to keep Garrett. Look all you want but you will find none. Better to look for a new, young coach. Florida coach Dan Mullen would be a good start, Baylor coach Matt Rhule would be another, Urban Meyer would be another. Art Briles would get an interview as a consultant. Kellen Moore would be better than Garrett.

Nine pages in and, unsurprising, some thread readers seem to have a need for a Jerry Jones translator. Luckily, I specialize in Jerry speak. :p The job does not pay <expletive> well though. :(

“I am looking for reasons. I’m looking for reasons to keep him. It’s merited here."
Jones translation: Jason's contract is up, so I must think whether to re-sign him or commit to another head coaching search after nine years.

"It’s hard to get an effective coach and get it locked in with all you have to retool and redo. I’m comfortable."
Jones translation: I have experienced past transitions involving new coaches and accommodating them with personnel and coaching staff. I am comfortable with the setup we have for Jason.

We have established some security apart from the won-loss. He represents the organization well on and off the field. You don’t have to wake up in the morning reading about it.”
Jones translation: My confidence in Jason goes beyond wins and losses. I consider Jason a model coach for the Dallas Cowboys. Jason does not say or do anything negative in respect to my franchise.

“No. No. No. I’m not pushing back. No one, including me.”
Jones translation: Neither I nor anyone else here are actively thinking of replacing Jason.

“Head coach, right there beside him the offensive coordinator, the play caller, they’re going to get a lot of shots from time to time because we all know it doesn’t go right at all [all the time] so get ready. But I’ve seen him, and I’ve seen him handle it, but I’ve not seen a concern, and I’ve experienced it to where players, key players, have an issue with the coach. I haven’t seen that with Garrett.”
Jones translation: Jointly, Jason and Kellen will try a number of different gameplans that will not go as planned, so be prepared to see them not succeed at times. I have seen Jason cope, rebound from bad games, and have success afterwards. I have also seen players, along with playmakers, not react well with coaches experiencing bad games but I have not witnessed players reacting that way with Jason.

“Do you need my health examination as well? Or my health record? I’m not going to talk about that, and you know I’m not. Really, I’m not.”
Jones translation: Am I certain? Do you want me to see a shrink? Do you want to review my medical record for signs of mental deficiency? I am not crazy. I know what I am talking about and you know I am not going to say something different. End of discussion.

Lincoln Riley, Urban Meyer, Mike McCarthy
So 2 college coaches and McCarthy, an offensive coach whose anemic offense couldn’t even be saved by Aaron Rodgers?

Boy, we’d be stupid NOT to hire one of these studs!

Comparing Lincoln Riley to Garrett is like comparing coffee to crack.

Yeah, because great college coaches ALWAYS pan out in the NFL! It’s practically the same league!

Ask Chip Kelly and Nick Saban!

lol. Probably a lot of fans do feel it has been Groundhog's Day since the end of the 1996 season (I hope I referenced the correct Bill Murray movie scene :muttley:).

On a serious note, I have always disagreed Jones does not care about winning. It is simply that his narcissism convinces him that winning can be achieved through his direct oversight. It explains why he has never relinquished his 30-year and counting third title of general manager and allowed someone else who is qualified to run football operations.

It is a never-ending situation some will either not accept or even acknowledge. It can be a difficult concept to wrap one's mind around, namely, watching someone else self-justify always being in control, and believe they are right always being in control, despite results suggesting otherwise. Narcissism is a real thing in life though. Ignoring or even considering why any individual thinks the way they do does not improve one's own understanding of why certain people are infinitely obstinate

The point is that college coaches are usually unsuccessful transitioning to the NFL.

Yes, Jimmy’s a rare example of a college coach who was terrific in the NFL as well. It was also nearly 30 years ago.

Some have and many haven't Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier both highly successful college coaches who had a hard time at the NFL level. There is a big difference coaching kids vs Grown men who are actually getting paid more than the HC

Jerry would have drafted Manziel but it didn't happen.

In the off-season Stephen Jones said Garrett's record is "Not Good Enough".

SJones hates spending money and not getting a return on investment.

If the Cowboys don't make it to the NFC Championship Game, SJones is going to stand on his head to avoid giving Garrett a new contrac
t.

+1 .....said the same thing. Better believe Stephen is expecting a min one Super Bowl from monies he about to spend on new contracts and quite frankly, who can blame him.
