Does Frank Gore make you nervous for Emmitt's record?

That wasn't the question. .

My response wasn't addressed to the question. It was the answers. People here are worried about Gore passing Smith like it would change the public's perception of Smith. If the total yardage figure is all Smith brings to the discussion of his talent, then I guess they'd be right to worry. Its like Barry Bonds passing Hank Aaron or Babe Ruth. Most everyone thinks Bonds was a cheater, so he's not held up in the same regard.

I don't really care about any individual records for any players but that particular record comes with an *. If not for Sanders not caring about the individual awards and being frustrated with his team's record, Emmitt wouldn't have it.

I cared a whole lot more about that record 5 SB's that the Steelers and then the Patriots took away from our franchise.

I cared a whole lot more when the Patriots ripped past the Cowboys 8 trips to set the mark at 11 and they lost as many SB's as the Cowboys won.

I don't care if Gore gets the record but he will have taken it behind far worse OL's than Emmitt ran behind and he will have earned it and if Peterson beats it, he will have amassed that many yards being the only thing his teams had most of the time.

Nope. If Gore plays another season, he'll be lucky to be 2nd string at his age. Younger, faster and better RB's could be found in the later rounds of the draft at this point of his career. He had a good run, but he's not going to pass Smith.

He is 100 yards away from Barry Sanders and will be probably around 2800 from Emmitt by years end.

Surprising he still gets carries but he is still chugging away. I would think he would get replaced pretty soon!

Another CTE case coming up :(......

For the same reason, as much as I admire and respect him, I don't consider Dirk Nowitzki one of the greatest all-time players in NBA history. Longevity is an wonderful thing, but it doesn't make a player one of the greatest.

Here's 10 off the top of my head I'd pick before Gore. Without really thinking about it.

Brown
Sanders
Payton
Sayers
Peterson
Smith
Dorsett
Dickerson
Jackson
Simpson
Just for poops n giggles:

Payton
Campbell
Dorsett
Brown
Tomlinson

Dickerson
Simpson
Marcus Allen
Jackson
Bettis

In no particular order. I love Sayers, but to me he just didn't play long enough.

My bias is that when comparing players, I choose guys I would draft before I picked player X based on the talent they displayed while they were playing. I don't penalize a superior player because they got injured. Injuries are freak things and can happen to anyone at any time. That's why I rank guys like Bo Jackson, Gayle Sayers and Terrell Davis higher than others do.

Did I miss the alternate reality where Frank Gore won four rushing titles and an MVP?
Weak comparison technique. Go watch tape of Gore when he was younger, and you'll see what I mean. Very similar backs, and both extremely effective.

Jamaal Lewis is one of the best RB's I've ever seen for a short time.

Records are made to be broken.

So it doesn’t really bother me if Gore passes him.

The only thing weak is your logic, they aren’t similar at all. Gore was never even considered a top 5 back in the league for even a single year. You can’t just hand wave four rushing titles and an MVP away like they’re Pro Bowl appearances. For a running back, that’s rarified air. Try again.

I've been thinking about this for 2 years and I'll preface this by saying Emmitt is my all-time favorite player.

Frank gore is annoying ** - he needs to retire and go away. He shouldn't be mentioned in the same paragraph as Emmitt smith. Gore had ONE season where he rushed for over 1250 yards, Emmitt had SEVEN. It's annoying seeing his face on the screen with Emmitt, Walter, and Barry. I respect the longevity of his career, but there's nothing great about Frank Gore PERIOD.

Hard to imagine given the way offense is played these days. The featured "bell cow" back is extremely rare. The Kamara's/McCaffrey's/Barkley's and committees are the future.
Damn, if that’s the future, teams better start getting their trainers and doctors ready LOL

If Gore doesn’t pass Emmitt, that record will NEVER be broken.

Today’s NFL is about the passing game and “RB by committee.”

Guys like Zeke and Saquon won’t get enough carries over 15+ years.

his stats are impressive.

he should be a first ballot HoF player.

a bit nervous, but I don’t think he will make it.

Emmitt's record is safe for now. And I doubt it will be broken for years to come. Despite the resurgence of the running back position, the league currently is a passing league and a substitution league, especially for running backs. I just don't think you're going to see a workhorse back like Emmitt anymore. Frank Gore has had a marvelous, if not unassuming, career. But it would likely take him seven more years to catch Emmitt because Gore has likely seen the last of his 1,000 yard rushing seasons. Question is whether Frank Gore is a Hall of Fame back?

yes on the HoF.

He's a good player that's played for a long time, he's a compiler of stats. It would be terrible for a player like Gore to break that record and not being close to sniffing the HoF.
