Looks like a bad year for Will McClay

I wasn’t either but I didn’t like the LVE pick and I felt like we should’ve addressed receiver before the third....I was wrong on both accounts and I’m guessing many were. They take chances. Sometimes it pans out sometimes it doesn’t.
True!

LVE is a stud. I was thrilled that we didn't use our 1st on a WR that year. That WR class was so deep.
But I REALLY wanted us to trade up when Derwin James fell so far. Takes two to trade, but man, that was surreal to see a guy like that fall that far.

....better watch out for the Hill advocates. According to them, Hill is the next Randy White in 3 yrs. ;)..

My CFO, a Penn State grad, begs to differ.

Im also a Penn State grad. And I’m a member of the alumni association. And I watch penn state games with Penn State fans.

Again, he didn’t have injury problems in college and I haven’t heard many people who think he wasn’t a good player. Then again, how much hype do you expect a 3rd round interior OL player to have? Do you expect a 3rd round OL player to have a ton of fanfare? No 3rd round OL player from any school does. So holding that against McGovern makes zero sense.

again, you’re just making stuff up, or basing your entire analysis of him, off the opinion of your boss. Which btw, would be stupid.

Is this thread serious? The team didn't have a first round pick this year. That was covered by Amari Cooper, who is one of the top WRs in the league and is still quite young. The hit rate for rounds 2-7 goes down considerably. We definitely have a good player in Pollard. The jury is still out on Hill and Wilson may turn into something as well. It's WAY too early to judge the draft, but if you can get a starter (Cooper) and a couple of rotational players (Pollard and hopefully Hill) that's not a bad draft at all. People got spoiled by that 2016 draft.

Hey. Lets be real here. Mcclay gives the player reports. The coaches weigh in and draft. Hill was a ROD choice. Cant blame Mcclay for stupidity on the coaching side

Marinelli can " weigh in" and give his preference based on his philosophy and the short research and info he receives from scouting dept. in few weeks leading up to the draft,..
but Marinelli does not decide what round and specific pick per value board that the scouts and player personnel guys have compiled and research.

That becomes McClay's task and responsibility as to where they draft this and that player according to their player value of their board.

Trysten Hill is a B-U-S-T.
Here we go again.

Those 3 years sure went by fast.

Oh wait, it's only been 6 months!!!

I'm still love this draft starting with the 1st round pick going towards Cooper.

McGovern didn’t have injury problems
At Penn State. He started every game his last two seasons. Most penn state fans think highly of him.

you don’t know what you’re talking about or just making things up.

I'm about 2 hours from Happy Valley. Had a TON of friends go there, my sister went there. Not one PSU fan I talked to had anything negative to say about McGovern when we drafted him. They all said he's a real good player.

This is a win/win thread.

The thread will be linked to as an I Told You So if Hill and McGovern's careers never blossom.

The thread will be forgotten in the mists of time if Hill and McGovern's careers take off.

See? Can't lose either way unless it is the latter and someone remembers the thread in the future..

Fan Boys:" We are the best drafting team in the league!"

After getting almost nothing so far from this draft class...

Fan Boys: " You can't judge a class until several years down the road."

After cutting 1st round pick after 2 seasons....

Fan Boys: "All teams miss in the draft. Plus, our d-line is loaded and he isn't better than the guys we have"

Taco starts 4 games, registers 17 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 safety, 4 QB hurries

Fan Boys: "Ummm, Go Cowboys?"

The reality is while it is too early to judge a prospect, it is not too soon to be disappointed by the lack of production from this class. This team and fans here have been beating their chests about ignoring free agency and just "building through the draft." When you claim this is your primary method for roster building, you cannot miss on your top picks. Especially Trysten Hill, who was supposed to be a pass-rushing 3Tech, where this team desperately needs someone to step up and take reps.

It's also not too early to learn from the mistakes and stop listening to the voices in the war room he pushed Taco over TJ Watt and Trysten over Thornhill. Hopefully, the Cowboys has some sort of postmortem process and when they evaluate what went wrong with those picks, they remove those people from the decision-making process.

I love me some Will McClay, but this can't happen again if we're going to pay big money to multiple players.

Trysten Hill is a B-U-S-T. They need to cut bait there fast. There's no "other" side to that dude. One tackle. He sucks.

Connor McGovern has a history of injuries, and might never see the field here. He wasn't beloved at Penn State at all.

Pollard is nice.

Michael Jackson is a Chief now.

Joe Jackson is just a guy.

Donovan Wilson is a maybe.

Jalen Jelks is bye-bye in the car-car.

After years of fantastic drafts and one Taco "oops", this draft looks dry as a bone. Not good.

- I thought it was Detroit Lions that pouched Michael Jackson off our practice squad ?

- I've been disappointed in the growth and very limited playing time of Hill thus far but we cannot give up on him to BUST him after just one season.
He maybe the type that needs a couple of years to emerge as a player. But frankly I do not want to wait on him for that to possibly happen.
DT along with DBs still very high prioriety next year.

- McGovern plagued with pect injury, I think we shelf him and restart him next year in '20. I trust McClay player value in this.
- Pollard is the one i'm having the most puzzling problems with, as it's clearly a coaching issue with underutilizing him
- if Cowboys were really that high on Michael Jackson, they would have found a way to elevate him to 53 roster rather than allow him to move on...imo.
- Wilson was slowed by injury and coach prefer vet help over rookieness (in his case?)
- Joe Jackson and Jelks (IR red shirted?) are simply in a rookie process with players like Hyder, Armstrong, ahead of them.

Wait, if you're saying Taco is a good player, then that means it wasn't a poor draft pick. Maybe it's the coaches' fault for not playing him.

The thread will be linked to as an I Told You So if Hill and McGovern's careers never blossom.

Slanted opinion there.

It will also be linked as an I Told You So if Hill ever turns out to be anything.

Your implication that only negative posters drudge up old posts is pure garbage.

When the defensive picks go well, its McClay. When they dont, its Rod.

When the offensive picks go bad, no one blamed Linehan. When the defensive picks go bad, they blame Rod.

This narrative has been pushed so much. When are you guys going to get that this is all a big team effort, and that goes for the good and the bad.

What? You want to cut bait on Trysten Hill after half of his rookie season?

You already know that Joe and Wilson are already wasted? Not to mention McGovern?

Wow. You are either a prophet or you are a misguided, emotional football fan. Not sure which.
hey all he needs is a7 games to prove its all a waste...what else could they complain about....its a Whine and Cheese party seemingly these days at the forum
