With the exception of the Philly game, we have managed to come out of the gates notoriously slow in every other game this year.

I know the Giants don't have that kind of defense to be able to hold us down to 10 or less points for the
first half of the game.

and I was disappointed why we were dinking and dunking instead of going for the throat attack chunk plays
vs a porous Giants secondary.

They do not have the CBs to handle our WRs, but we were sold on going to 'lumbering" Witten for a sprinkle of plays here and there.

But notice how when we started pushing the ball downfield to Cooper, Gallup and Cobb, ..our offense started to boil and sizzle up. We were at the top of the NFL when it came to 3rd down conversion, but yet
the Giants were able

I dunno what it is with these slow starts and early conservative modes .. a team like the Pats are simply going to kill us if we do the same.

The sense of urgency isnt there. The only time this team plays with a sense of urgency is when their season is threatened.

Poopy cramps is my educated guess.

At times it's just a lack of execution, and others it just seems they can't adjust till the 2nd half I guess if the opposing team shows something they weren't expecting. Like Aaron Jones...

Do you recall how many times Romo would use that "taking what the defense gives us" as an excuse for slow starts? That's the same as a counter puncher in boxing and why before he went totally crazy, Tyson was such a handful. He wouldn't give a counter puncher the time.

Among the things that Bill Walsh brought to the game was the 15 play script to start his offense off regardless of what the other HC and DC had planned. He wanted to set the tone not only with the game but with his team. One of the things his team knew was that an offensive penalty could upset that script and they were better mentally prepared to execute the plays knowing them in advance.

How many times have we seen the Cowboys coaching staff get punched first? GB has made a habit of that and MIN and NE should do the same because both have defenses to stifle a comeback. MIN will try to do that to take the crowd out of it and Zimmer wants to dictate to Garrett and Moore what his defense will give them and they're not giving them the run.

Blame it on whom ever you choose but when I see the plays for the taking and players committing penalties to stop drives or turning the ball over I put as much blame on them as anyone else. There is a reason players are paid a hell of a lot more than HC. Even Belicheck does not make close to the money as the majority of players. Players know their damn jobs and when I see bonehead mistakes the player is accountable. HC has blame sure they do but then adjustments made in the 2nd half credit should also go to coach and players

Penalties killing drives and turning over the ball. End of story.
Agreed. Another way to look at it...the more we focus on those 12-15 play drives, the more prone we are to the miscues that detail them. We aren’t sound or disciplined enough to play that way. We need chunk plays.

Slow starts are inevitable when you start a backup QB, even though he's probably top 5 among NFL backups, instead of your starter.

I'll take burning at the stake because a hot steak is better than a cold chop!

Formation penalties are getting ridiculous, that's on the coaches, and it seems to be happening every game. We just dont seem ready out of the gate...too much pregame pumping up, their exhausted by kickoff!

Agree! I'm not sure how long time fans don't just admit this now. This has been going on 9 years. Romo's career was built on crappy first halfs that were then offset by him flinging it around the field and almost winning or winning games with heroics. We all were here then talking about it. No matter how much you say the team never quits, or he is a discipline guy etc, the team has been know to come out poorly and unprepared for years. Heck it's how you get the rep for a team not quitting.

This team is sloppy and there is no way around it. I blame this on Jerruah and his son with the "circus atmosphere" he brings with the team. Doesn't matter who the head coach is this team will forever underperform!

The coach is expected to prepare his team for any opponent. When he fails, he is expected to fix the mistakes he saw in the team that week.

Jason Garrett obviously never prepares this team. The reason we have so many "comebacks" is because the players themselves have to devise a way to win after halftime.

Often times, it's too late. But you gotta give them credit for trying. Garrett is the worst enemy of this team.

This. We are 1 yard away from leading the league in penalty yardage. I'm not sure if we just let our oline get away with too much in practice, but the holding penalties have been ridiculous.

And yet, we lead the league in Offense. We are 5th in PPG in the entire NFL. Lead the league in Average Yards Per Game. Lead the league in 3rd Down conversions. I mean, I can go on here but what it tells me is that this is not a problem with the actual scheme. Penalties, turnovers, none execution or lack of focus is the problem IMO.
