No accountability anywhere in the organization so why would the “on the field” employees be any different?

I'd say there's several reasons that keep us from super bowl contention. The biggest is our inconsistencies, caused by several factors, including weaknesses at key areas such as DT and S and lack of top tier coaching.

disagree.
with our running game and defense...we are.
regardless of how folks feel about garrett..we are one of the best teams in the leage.
don't care about narratives.
our run game and our defense are built for the play-offs.

All good and fine but, in the postseason, we won’t be facing teams like Miami, the Jets (still can’t believe that loss), the Giants and Wash.

Nice try with your narrative...

How is that not cheating by the refs?

Because it's actually standard practice for refs in that situation. At the time of this, a couple reporters started digging around on FG footage and XP footage and found examples of refs doing this in other games.

Per the NFL statement at that time, they started doing this for player safety reasons to prevent players from hitting the long snapper in the head or neck when he wasn't looking.

In other words, it was another Patriots conspiracy that died a quick death.

Short of Garrett being fired?
Nothing.
And if Garrett is fired, what then? This isn't something new, Parcells was losing his mind on the sideline with the pre snap penalties.

How often do you see the player committing a penalty come out of the game as opposed to 15 years ago? They can't risk putting the backup in because one play can make the difference.

I can remember some college HC's making the offender come out and stand next to him before sending him back in and the HC didn't speak to him. The message was delivered loud and clear to him and the rest of the team. Screw up and I will embarrass you in front of your family, friends and teammates. Know who was behind the move to identify the perp on live TV? The coaches. They didn't use to do that, single out the culprit but then the coaches thought of the advantage of that.

Now, they can't do anything but try and get players that don't get "stupid" penalties. The major necessary ingredient is missing....fear. They don't fear for their jobs or making mistakes because they know who plays behind them. Too many lack the fear of losing, often a greater motivator than the desire to win.

1. Because you don’t know which Cowboys team will show up from week to week. You need to win four straight to win the Super Bowl.

2. because the coaching staff doesn’t know how to game plan for the opponent.

what’s the common link here? Jason Garrett

Know who the two best teams regarding penalties in the NFL are? Yep, you guessed it, MIA and CIN, a combined 1-15. CotY candidates so good are they at limiting the mistakes.

It's not penalties, it is the team's ability to overcome them. Hell, every year the Raiders did anything, they led the league in penalties and the team in second wasn't close. They could overcome them because of how their offense was based on the vertical passing game.

The Cowboys leads the league in converting 3rd and 10+ so that's a team that can overcome penalties. There are stupid penalties, lining up offside, presnap mental errors which are sometimes caused by the OL trying to get the edge against a player he's losing some ground to but there are some action penalties and every OL is taught to try and get by with legal holds, we see them constantly and just this year they started calling more on the backside OT, Big Smitty's been getting his share. They used to give that player a little more leeway in protecting his QB's blindside but they started tackling the DE's.

The whole penalty thing is overplayed and not the reason the Cowboys are 5-3 or lost those 3 games. Blaming coaches for what players do on the field is excessive. Think those guys don't spend time every week on preventing that and they do scout official crews and know how they usually call games.

There is one penalty that does make me crazy and I've seen it more this season, in college and the NFL, when everyone is early because the Center forgot the snap count. How in the hell does the Center forget the snap count? And I've seen more balls snapped before the QB was ready.

But for pure dumb, lining up in the neutral zone takes a special kind of moron. Hey stupid, there's the ball, there's the los. Few have done enough to dispel the dumb jock thinking.

Agreed. Marsh penalty was simply a player not know the rules. Conduct penalties where players selfishly losing their heads.
No, it was some bs that the refs decided to call. Same exact thing happened against Philly...no call.

The Cobb penalty was dumb, the Woods penalty was a horrible call, and the holdings against Tyron were AWFUL. That's like 50 yards in penalties that could just as easily not be there.

10 penalties for 103 yards

We committed these idiotic penalties and got away last night because we were playing the hapless Giants. But you do that against quality opponents and you will get your head handed to you. What is worse, is that there is not one iota of improvement in this category. Since the time Garrett was hired as coach, this team has suffered from penalties and it continues year in and year out. Short of Garrett being fired, what is it going to take to stop committing these idiotic penalties?
We have a reactionary coaching staff, and a slow one at that. Look for penalties to clear up next year, if Garrett sticks around.

We've had a lot of touchdowns nullified by penalty this year. I can't say that one of those penalties was a good call.

It would be nice to know what were the penalties and on who? To see if there's a pattern.

He has a point on the penalties. Most championship teams aren't penalized like that. It's something bad teams usually have a problem with. It's one of the reasons they're bad.

I think Garrett and company are going to work on the penalty thing in practice this week and this is going to get better. jmho however wrong it may be.

The Cowboys won’t get any farther this year than they have been getting because of penalties/mistakes and slow starts that will eventually catch up with them against contending teams.
