Why have LVE & Jaylon regressed so much?

Because the DL plays with zero gap integrity, they fly up the field leaving massive natural holes. They make it easy on the OL to get free releases and up to the second level, where our LBs are getting mauled.

Those two were causes for hope in 2018.

Looked like we were set for 5-7 years with two of the best LBers in the league, and now, blah. Missed tackles, lack of physicality, and just a general state of looking lost on the field.

Can anyone think of the reason why both have regressed so much?

Sure, they both have moments where they create plays; but for the most part, 2019 has been a massive disappointment for #55 and #54.

I’m concerned and wondering if you guys might have a clue why.

Don't know why but I would like to have the purple dranker back myself.

We've heard it many times, the dline plays run on the way to the QB, so miss direction, counters, screens are mana from god for offensive coordinators.

LBs are playing too deep, no run blitzes are being called so we see these guys making tackles 7 yards downfield and high fiving each other because they made a play as the defense was designed...bend but don't break.

Before the game started, all of the announcers picked Dallas for the win, that's when I knew we would lose. Because we were the favorites, no desperation from our coaches and we played the typical "not to lose " game instead of the aggressive...our backs against the wall and take the game to them style.

It's very obvious and easy to see, plus the attitude bleeds down from the coaching level to the players.

Very nice assessment. Kris Richard and Marinelli are like adding lemonade to coffee.

That’s what I’ve been thinking...something’s off. He’s not getting ahead in the pitch count. You don’t see much of him in backfield...that’s not like him at all.
Maybe a sophomore slump maybe he just isn't that good.

Its really just LVE. Jaylon is playing pretty well. I don't understand whats changed from last year. LVE seems to be playing a lot of coverage and not attacking. He had one great play last night on Dalvin Cook which shows he can still do it.

I think it’s the scheme. First off they are not prepared to play. They don’t seem to know what the offense is going to do. That is preparation and in game. Second the defense is set up to be reactionary rather than attacking. Both guys are down hill players better suited to being aggressive. See the ball go get the ball rather than here is your box you wait until they come into your box. The Dallas defense has them on their heels. Third they are too comfortable. The whole team is. They don’t have the necessary edge to be great. Lastly too often they are in coverage or 10 yards off the LOS. Not a good spot for their type of talent.

It is an old story in Dallas. This loser staff doesn’t scheme based on the opponent or their talent. They line up every week and do the same thing.

The offensive line from our opponents are coming forward to jostle our line backers and its working to a degree. Our offensive line is getting bottled up and I think its because they are so beat up, all they are concentrating on is protecting Dak and making a wall in front of him.

Definitely didn't see it coming. I thought we had the best group of linebackers going into the season. Both have been major disappointments in my opinion. It's really been a shocker, it's like they are still regressing with each game.

I see bad positioning and overrunning plays (teams using their aggressiveness against them)

pretty much this. the NFL is hard, and players and coaches know how to exploit a young player's weaknesses and tendencies. they'll both be fine in the long run. they're both talented, smart, and athletic. growing pains.

It is not regressing. It's called tired of listening to the same old BS from our coaches. This team has tuned out our inept coaches...

My thoughts on it, after watching a couple of the All 22 film, i see the DT's trying to get up field more and are getting better penetration than last year (maybe in contract year trying to get sacks not do the actual play), I'm seeing linemen that are letting them go bye and going to second level and getting hands on LBs... Now last year LVE and SMITH did a lot better getting off the blocks when they got there. but this year they are getting hammered in second level a-lot more. that coupled with its tiring trying to break free from someones grip, over and over again.... thinking about Grappling with a 320LB Gorrilla while on the move trying to get somewhere about 20-30x a quarter, and then think about how much more exhausted your going to be in 3rd and 4th quarter and i think you have your answer.

smith is playing well...LVE seems to have regressed because there is a year of game tape coaches watched and they are now attacking the defense differently...and neither LVE or defense have adjusted...often this is the cause of sophomore slumps more than anything else. adjusting to other teams adjustments and not knowing your own tendencies and weaknesses and how to scheme around them

This is my thought as well. They're getting worked around and taking themselves out of plays with angles and over pursuing.

I'm as perplexed as you Woot, makes no sense what is going on with them. It has to be the scheme or injury. I can't put a finger on it. They seem lost, tentative, and scared to get hurt almost...
I'll go with "scheme" if that's what this bunch of poser coaches are calling that garbage.
