Lol so Tavon’s the scapegoat now. Basically he was told to fair catch it, but “a veteran returner should know not to listen to what coach says if you get a favorable look”.

give me a break

the coaching staff should know a punt return from midfield probably had a better shot of scoring than a last second Hail Mary attempt when Minnesota just has to back everyone up to the goal line. Even if he doesn’t score, take advantage of the fact the clock stops with a change of possession and get your yards on the return.

Minnesota should have kicked it out of bounds in that situation. But of course this coaching staff can’t take advantage of a mistake by the other team.

Mark my words, this team is going to revolt sooner rather than later. Imagine being on this team for this long to be held back by Goody Two Shoes Garrett and Skeletor (JJ). What would happen if the whole team went on strike?

It looks like Tavon had a clear lane all the way down the sideline. I think if he just took off right away he could have gotten it down to the 15 yard line.... assuming he did not make anyone miss or break any tackles. The problem is Tavon does not care. As a head coach you should never let players on the team that have that kind of attitude. The same attitude that Charlton had & Hill has. It is all about them. They need more guys with attitudes of passion like Michael Irvin, Jason Witten, Daryl Johnson, Bill Bates. Guys that will get in your face if you mess up.... because most of the coaches don't do it.

Austin left 20+ return yards on the field and a possible TD. You are right, don't leave your chosen return man dangling and give him his head to chose when it's easily deciphered in play. If I were Austin, I'd have been heavily salivating...those game changers don't pop up very often.

Change Austin to Garrett and you're spot on.

The coaches are all neutered.

Sort of...the player in the action has to in the final analysis, be accountable for his own decisions. Players get 'away' with decisions that pay off...always have.
