A tiny fraction of the players who played here, and the guys who did were fringe players like Crayton. The only good player who did was TO, who ripped everyone in the Western Hemisphere.

Guys like Orlando Scandrick have praised Garrett and Martellus Bennett - a knucklehead who played for 5 teams and never found a home - just told his brother he would love Dallas.

Orlando Scandrick only said that because he's looking for a job and truly and honestly, in comparison to the Eagles, I'm sure his tenure here with Garrett wasn't that bad. Garrett may not be a bad person (even though he appears to be a lying, narcissistic person that will throw others under the bus to save himself), but he isn't a good coach by any means. Maybe that's what Scandrick meant when he praised Garrett.

Martellus was likely just trying to give hope to his brother Michael and the Dallas fans. Martellus didn't say anything inclusive about Michael liking Garrett, he said DALLAS. Meaning the TEAM as a WHOLE. That may include Garrett, but not exclusively.

I'm no JG fan but have a hard time faulting him on this one. Even if Austin had a good return I have little doubt there would have been a flag screwing up field position even worse. Our special teams kick returning sucks.
Then you try to block it.

You cannot fail to do both

Yup and then get swamp f-ed by the Patriots!

We'll be lucky to beat the Lions much less the Pats or any other team besides the Commanders remaining. Heck even the Commanders could beat us. I don't know. The Jets killed us so anything is a possibility.

if it is true it came from the special teams coach, why hasn't garrett fired him already? especially if this is making garrett look like an idiot.

Garrett doesn't need any help there

Gonna play devil's advocate here, guess what if Austin returns it and fumbles now who gets the blame Garrett but the entire sideline was there for Austin for a big return!

If it was 2 min and 3 timeouts left, maybe I'd be upset having Austin return it, but it was about 16 seconds left, Hail Marys almost never work, and we have Austin specifically for his return ability

Situational football. If you practice this situation, there's no confusion about what to do.

You're the head coach. Go over this situation in practice, and if there's a "communication problem," punt it to him again. If it happens again, then you as HC tell him yourself. If he still doesn't get it, then put in another returner. And all it cost you was 3 plays in practice!

You also benefit by finding out who's slow on the uptake-- the player, the ST coach, or you.

to be fair Martellus also said in that interview that Garrett was Jeff Fisher without the super bowl appearance. Nobody tweeted that however.

First of all there is no such thing as a meaningless play! That's the football coach in me talkin!
It was a pretty meaningless play. The Vikings win probability before punting was in the high 90s... and that's probably not even factoring in the "ability" of fumbling machine Tavon Austin. It is exceedingly hard to score anything longer than a 15 yard touchdown in a no timeout situation.
People should be crying about not going for it on 4th and 5 earlier in the game, which I noticed that during the game kicking the field goal there actually lowered our win probability. But crying about Garrett has never really been an exercise in logic.

What a joke. This is on the HC no matter who they try to blame. Garrett's a POS.
No kidding. You get a stop inside the other teams 20. As a head coach you gotta say either of the two.

Stack the line and let’s get a block or
Let’s go, big return Tavon, last thing you let happen is the ball hits the turf.

If you're relying on scoring a TD that late, in that situation, you've probably wasted better chances along the way. The Cowboys certainly did that night.

But it wouldn't be Jerry's World without a dose of dysfunction tossed into the mix.

Keith O'Quinn has been with the franchise in some capacity for about the last decade. Yet another coach they are comfortable keeping around even though he sucks at his job. This staff is full of them.
This is his 1st year as a coach. He’s been in the scout dept prior to this. That should explain why the ST totally suck this year.

Austin should’ve seen the play developing and said to himself “I’m going to make a play”.

This seems like a strange argument. If Austin returns the punt and fumbles, he gets the blame. If the point is that he shouldn't have returned the punt because he might fumble, then the coaches are scared to play football. You either trust your return man to do his job or replace him with someone who can.

This is his 2nd year. He got the promotion when Bisaccia left after the 2017 season.
