Cris Carter cleaned out his desk at Fox Sports under supervision of security, two sources told The Big Lead. Fox Sports issued a statement to John Ourand of Sports Business Daily saying that Carter is no longer with the company and that they will have no further comment.

The Big Lead first reported on Sunday that Carter was suspended from First Things First on FS1 pending a Fox investigation. Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports followed up with a report that Carter was miffed about not being included on Fox's Thursday Night Football studio coverage and berated Fox Sports bosses about it.

Since last Thursday, Chris Canty has been filling in for Carter alongside Nick Wright and Jenna Wolfe on the FS1 morning show.

That's too bad, I thought that was one of the better talk shows. But I'm eager to see what Canty might do with an expanded role. And Mark Schlereth would be another very deserving choice. I think he's terribly underrated.

Maybe Fox has caught wind of something in regards to Cris and they’re distancing themselves?

Firing a quality analyst like Cris over a dumb spat like that doesn’t make sense. Something else must be at play.

Waiting to hear some big accusation against him and then we can all say he didn't have a fall guy.

It may have been more serious than him being upset about the TNF studio show.

While there have been reports that Carter was miffed about not being a part of Fox’s “Thursday Night Football” studio show, that is not the reason he was let go.

He may have been upset about not having a role on TNF, but sources said the matter at hand is more serious. The exact nature of the disagreement is unknown at this time. Carter could not be immediately reached for comment.

Carter is very outspoken. I liked him, mostly, but at times he seemed way too forward w/ stuff that didn't belong on the air.

That was my initial reaction as well. He and Wright are probably the best one because it's straight analysis without the the histrionics.
(Still reading to see what the investigation was)
