I really really don't want to water down the regular season, the every game matters aspect is what makes watching the NFL special.

17 games or 18 games, i'll have to live with, but please for the love of God do not expand the number of teams making the playoffs.

Awesome. We get an extra game to see Jeff Heath as a starter. You all know it’s going to happen

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the deal gets done for 17 games but only on the condition that at least one or two preseason games are destined to be eliminated. I think the players would be much more prone to accepting such a thing more readily than with four of them remaining intact.

Hoping they don't get a deal finalized before March so Dallas will have the franchise and transition tags available to them.

Starters barely play in preseason games as it is. Those games are for filling out your roster. I don't watch them, but I see no reason why to get rid of them. They don't mean anything so teams can effectively get rid of them on their own by not playing their starting talent.

The games used to be for sharpening your team and preparing them for the season. Its become a meaningless thing where teams actually sign guys to specifically play these games........so they can avoid injury to starters and key back-ups. Its unwatchable.

I do watch them
That’s half your rosters in a fight for their careers
Those 10 or so spots that get decided in those games are so important

So don't watch it. How hard is that?

I doubt coaches care if fans find it unwatchable.

It's for them to make decisions on the back end of the roster. Practice can only show you so much due to the new rules restricting contact practice. Players may look good in practice only to look lost when a backup QB/RB/WR makes them look foolish.

Guys like Luke Gifford, once thought of merely an afterthought, made plays in the preseason which allowed him to make the roster. Anyone actually have him on their early 53 man roster predictions?

Reduce it by one game? Sure. But it still has a place in the game.

NHL & NBA have preseason games, so it's not some niche thing run by the NHL.
