Garrett’s success with Dak makes him the next coach of
Garrett will be gone. Fans will revolt if he is re-signed. Jerry knows this
One of the nationwide sports talk shows this AM, might have been Dan Patrick, said Riley has either already been contacted FWIW.
How does he not get fired. Losing to the Jets was the hammer hitting the nail. You will win on a technicality. Jerry set up a situation for his own comfort, based on his feelings for Garrett, that will prevent him from firing Garrett even if the Cowboys finish 5-11.
Don’t forget that Garrett’s contract runs out at the end of the season. Jerry will never fire Jason during the season, and if he decides he has to move on, he will simply go sign another coach, deciding not to resign JG, never having to actually fire him.
Jerry is a smart man. He didn’t want to fire his boy, and he made sure he wouldn’t need to do so.
Prediction? Garrett’s success with Dak makes him the next coach of
Or,
- Giants
- Browns
- Jets (3 places where he would actually be a step forward)
Final prediction — Forget the talk about college coaches. Jerry won’t want to start over with another young guy who’s never coached in the NFL or been a head coach. Plus, the first crop of hot young geniuses have done little this year, and the newest crop seem lost. Look for Jerry to try to bring in a defensive minded former head coach or defensive coordinator. Won’t surprise me if he tries to keep Moore as OC, and based on this year’s numbers, that may be an easy sell to a defensive minded coach.
- Dolphins
- Broncos (Places that have hired former Cowboys in the past)
I wonder ...
- Did Nick Saban learn anything from his first NFL tenure
- Might Saban be ready to move on from Alabama at this point
Big difference between “we are going in another direction, Thanks” and “you’re fired?”If Jerry set up the situation with Garrett for his own comfort, and therefore is too comfortable with Garrett to fire him, wouldn't he also be too comfortable with him to let him leave because his contract expired?
Garrett took a 4th round rookie and had the best season in NFL history with a QB who was 3rd string in camp.Kitna gets the credit for Dak's improvement this season, not Garrett.
The poster I responded to didn't say he wouldn't fire Garrett because it was harsher than letting his contract terminate, he said he wouldn't fire him because Garrett is the guy that he is comfortable with as the head coach. Besides, it's not as if Garrett isn't smart enough to understand that either way it amounts to Jerry letting him go and hiring a new head coach.Big difference between “we are going in another direction, Thanks” and “you’re fired?”
Again, read the post. It’s impossible to fire a coach who isn’t under contract. Garrett’s contract expires at the end of this season. That’s why he won’t get “fired”.Does anyone know if vegas takes bets on head coaches getting fired? I would love to actually bet a couple hundred on Garrett getting canned this offseason.

You’ll see. Garrett will never be fired. His contract will expite and he will simply walk away. You will learn.I see no one likes your post and I can see why, it seems like a self gloating know it all type of post. I really stopped reading when you said everything is setup for Jerry's comfort.. How could you possibly know how comfy Jones is at this moment or if we continue to lose and all hope is truly lost.. You do realize this is whats around the corner and in most cases already here...
To you and me as fans, fired vs not renewed is the same thing. But ask anyone in any business who was given the option of resigning vs being fired. It’s a huge difference. Jerry will let the contract expire and Garrett simply walks away. That’s easier go for both men than a firing. Not extending him is just a nice way of being able to fire their redheaded step-child son. LOL
jeri doesnt give a damn what fans think, actually he does and I think he's hurt deep down most fans will never give him credit for his football "acumen" so he only pays lip service to fans and will continue to do whatever he wants, regardless of what fans think about it. I think he resents most fans because so many cant stand him and he knows it; sticking with Garrett is sticking it to the fans that despise him
Even if they part ways, he'll just hamstring the next guy like he has everyone else, he'll go to his grave "doing things his way"
He's not only king of the hill at Alabama, he is in all of college football after having won national championships in 5 of the last 10 years, and being there knocking on the door in the other years. And he's 68 years old - why start over in the NFL at that age when he has everything going his way in his current situation?Saban is 68 years old and king of the hill at Alabama. Why in the world would he want to come work for Jerry & Son, and please don't say money. He's already made a small fortune.
Dude, if Garrett walks away it's because he is Jerry's boy and it's agreed upon. To me, this is no different than being fired in the sense that you're no longer needed. You’ll see. Garrett will never be fired. His contract will expite and he will simply walk away. You will learn.
