He may not be a stellar LG I'll admit, I just hope this post isn't a result of his blocking on that 3 yard loss against Minn. Because that had nothing to do with him.

It's an accumulated assessment of his overall performance. He's been and continues to be the line's weakest link.

I think Williams would be more developed if Bill Callahan had stayed on as the O-Line coach.

That zone blocking scheme could have compensated for Williams' lack of power, but Colombo's system definitely exposes Williams

I am not the least worried about Connor WIlliams. Be it Guard or Tackle I expect Connor to make that 3rd year leap into consistency wherever he plays. It will be his 2nd Full Off season. He still not as strong as he can get. We forget he's only 22 years...

In the current NFL, teams can't afford to wait until year three and hope that a player 'gets it'.

After this current injury and time missed, do you expect to see Williams back starting at left guard upon his return to health? I think between what I expect will be a much more physical presence in Su'a Filo, and the return of Conner McGivern, I think the team would be wise to pull the plug on Williams at guard and simply let him try to be what he is - a tackle. Let him work at being this team's swing tackle to replace Fleming, whose contract becomes unmanageable in 2020 anyway.

But I would end this idea of Williams growing into the role of starting left guard. He's clearly this line's weak link and there's little or no indication that's going to change any time soon.
Well we're going to find out pretty soon I would believe that Su a filo would start and he did a great job so maybe that's well wake him up if he continues to do a great job? But I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it

Question for everyone.

What is X filo the replacement? Why not Joe looney? He played so well in place for Fred, I feel he is the better player of the two ?

And yes I know he replaced C not LG

Looney has been off and on the practice injury report since August. He hasn't been inactive for any games but has nagging mild injuries

Xavier is the fresher of the 2 so there rolling with him even though Looney probably has the higher upside

In my opinion, it's because he's more of the power player you need in a guard whereas the others are more technically sound and finesse.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but how did you come to that conclusion? What are you looking at? I hope it's not on that last play they keep showing, because he did exactly what he was supposed to do.

You keep saying that as if it's true.

Williams remains LG starter this year so long as he is healthy
Even with flaws, hes still a superior player vs sua filo who has protection, endurance issues.

Next year maybe the starter of McGovern watch though. But I feel Mac would have to really wow the coaches and take entire summer by storm while Williams would have to be underwhelming for the Mac to take over Williams spot full time basis.

Williams will have advantage in game experience vs Mac having more natural OG knack and strength anchor base quo

I think people fall in love with Sua-Filo's physicality, which is easy to do, and get amnesia about how bad he was in pass protection. Is he a better in-line run blocker than Connor? Unequivocally. He is, however, not nearly as nimble making him a minus player against the pass and laughably bad pulling and lead blocking.

I look forward to seeing what he can do and if he's an overall improvement, he'll yeah stay with him. I just one, don't think Williams has been as bad as many here throwing him to the wolves carry on and two, Sua-Filo isn't remotely as good as those same people paint him.

I do, however, think having Williams as a swing tackle could be a boon for the Cowboys given the nagging injuries Tyron has dealt with. That, in of itself, might make removing Connor from starting LG a more logical move.

I look for Connor Williams to kick out to OT, regardless of what happens; however, since he's on IR.. I think the percentage goes up.

Next year, DAL can have #52 and Brandon Knight as the backup OTs.

I think McGovern redshirts.
