Who do you think would be Jerry's top 2 options?

Your guess is likely as good as mine. Really hard to say, since Jerry is totally unpredictable.

Possibly Kris Richard as the HC and whoever floats their boat as the #2 guy for that spot. (Maybe Kellen Moore as OC but nothing concrete.)

HC college candidates for HC might possibly be Urban Meyer or Lincoln Riley. Various other college candidates loom as possibilities, as well.

Other than that, it's all up for grabs -- take your pick!

Well I think we are being nitpicky with wording here. Think we all agree by being fired, we mean he is not gonna coach this team next year, and yeah I think everyone knows that he will finish this year out

To you and me as fans, fired vs not renewed is the same thing. But ask anyone in any business who was given the option of resigning vs being fired. It’s a huge difference. Jerry will let the contract expire and Garrett simply walks away. That’s easier go for both men than a firing.
no its not.....its a feel good comparison for you because you want him fired.

You will win on a technicality. Jerry set up a situation for his own comfort, based on his feelings for Garrett, that will prevent him from firing Garrett even if the Cowboys finish 5-11.

Don’t forget that Garrett’s contract runs out at the end of the season. Jerry will never fire Jason during the season, and if he decides he has to move on, he will simply go sign another coach, deciding not to resign JG, never having to actually fire him.

Jerry is a smart man. He didn’t want to fire his boy, and he made sure he wouldn’t need to do so.

Prediction? Garrett’s success with Dak makes him the next coach of
  • Giants
  • Browns
  • Jets (3 places where he would actually be a step forward)
Or,
  • Dolphins
  • Broncos (Places that have hired former Cowboys in the past)
Final prediction — Forget the talk about college coaches. Jerry won’t want to start over with another young guy who’s never coached in the NFL or been a head coach. Plus, the first crop of hot young geniuses have done little this year, and the newest crop seem lost. Look for Jerry to try to bring in a defensive minded former head coach or defensive coordinator. Won’t surprise me if he tries to keep Moore as OC, and based on this year’s numbers, that may be an easy sell to a defensive minded coach.

I wonder ...
  • Did Nick Saban learn anything from his first NFL tenure
  • Might Saban be ready to move on from Alabama at this point

Jones won't need to fire Garrett. Garrett's contract will expire, and he can just decline to give him a new contract. Garrett becomes a free agent that simply didn't re-sign with the Cowboys.

Now, Jones will likely need to fire some assistant coaches, but he won't need to fire Garrett.

Kitna gets the credit for Dak's improvement this season, not Garrett.
kitna is a garrett hire....and its because Moore got promoted....and Moore got promoted to QB coach, from 3rd string QB....and are you telling me Dak wasn't much good his first 3 years and we needed Kitna?

I agree...Jerry just won't resign Garrett. As for the new coach.....I think a couple things could happen.....

1. They just promote Kellen...

2. A name that I think that makes sense is Ken Norton Jr. as head coach. He runs the defense....Kellen runs the offense.
they will not promote Moore. guaranteed. bet the house on it.

The best name that comes to my mind is Art Briles. No one will hire him. He’s the best available HC in the country that can’t get a call.

Normally he wouldn’t bow down to someone like Jerry but needs the work. Jerry is just the guy who could handle the public firestorm criticism of character.

But Briles could make the most of this talent and Dak
why can't he get a job if he is so good?

and I do not, let me repeat, do not want a college coach

Good call, I was thinking the same thing. I think Riley is tops on the list, hands down. However, there are rumors going around the Internet, nothing concrete just chatter, that the Cowboys like the Ravens OC, Gregg Roman. He is still relatively young, just 47, has 22 years coaching experience in the NFL and has done a fantastic job with Lamar Jackson, who many view as a similar type of QB to Dak. Like I said, its just rumors at this point, but worth keeping an eye on if Clappy blows the division and we miss the playoffs and Jerry is looking around for a replacement. I think if that happens, its Riley's job if he wants it but if he doesn't want it, Roman might be second on the list.
I like that pick for head coach...and he comes from a good program in ravens. they are always tough and seem to reload, rather than rebuild for years now.

Yea, his argument is silly. Not resigning is in effect termination if you let them walk.

jerry is not comfortable losing the prize year after year. while he is loathe to admit a mistake, there is no doubt he realizes it. he probably gets a lot of "I told you so" from Stephen.
Jerry wants to win it his way which not likely to happen.

Are you not familiar with his baggage?
yes, but still....he was a college coach that now is unemployed.....and I do not want college coaches and even in college if you are really really good, schools will hire you and find an excuse on why they did it...he is not all that....

I promise you, there are coaches in Jerry's ear right now. For the first time in 20 years there are guys who know this teams potential.
